Grateful for the live stream of St. Rocco's Broadcast for the Dispossessed on The Poet's Hour. Sunday morning November 22 at 10 am EST.
Join us tonight for election discussion and commentary. We'll be joining King Haze's Adjusting the Frequency and Mr. Vaughn's Lounging After Dark programs, from 8 to midnight., with a live zoom feed that we'll pull away from for music to keep our work sharp.
The first hour/hour and a half will likely be focused on major issues at play, the local races we'll be watching, and any news coming out to that point. The polls close at 9 here, at which point we'll start reading results, and then discussing.
None of us is that certain whether we'll be able to call the big races -- president and congress -- within our time frame, but we'll try. If things are up in the air I'll be open to going back into the studio for another live broadcast from 8 to 9:30 in lieu of my morning news show and our Hudson Mohawk replay from tonight.
Please feel free to share with others you'd like to see on with us. Just let me know who've you invited, by email and/or text. And to listen in go to grandarts.org and hit the streaming button.

WCAA-LP, 107.3 FM – Albany’s Community Radio Station – is working its best to keep up with the protests that started centering on the city’s South Side on Saturday night, May 30. We are working to get Grand Street Community Arts to allow us into our studio as an essential news media service but until they give us access, the best we can do is provide updates, should anything happen, within a half-hour timeline to allow for prerecording and scheduling within our regular programming. Anyone with fresh information needing broadcast should email Program Director Paul Smart at
[email protected], or either text or email 518-929-5765. If you’re able to record anything, let us know and we’ll find a way of working with it promptly.
All of WCAA-LP’s producers are working to incorporate what’s happening in our community into their shows, be they news, commentary or entertainment. The same is true, on a meta-level, with our various Pacifica contributors.
This is a key moment in our nation’s, our world’s, history. Listen in for information, for context. And let us know how we can help, and share with us what you see. We’re in this together.
We've been talking about how to grow our listenership; how about we do a couple of things: find out about other shows and ask friends to listen to them, interview another host on your show..I think if we market each other our station will continue to grow. I was so impressed with our call last Tuesday and what everyone had to contribute. I'm ready to interview someone. Let's get this moving while everyone is stuck in their homes--let's give them something to listen to and show our cohesiveness and community spirit. My email,

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
Over the last weeks of quarantine measures, WCAA-LP, 107.3 FM has expanded its streaming possibilities (online at grandarts.org) and added a wealth of programming, including regular updates and public service announcements from the CDC, WHO, and more local agencies, Among the 36 local programs we are running 24/7 are Mr. Vaughn's new Real Issues, Real Talk; poetry and philosophic talk from St. Rocco's, Sparrow & others; great gospel with Arlethia Jones; comedy questions with Mr. Inevitable; Warren Hamilton’s thoughtful analysis of current policy matters; Fired Up Success with Liz Calandrino; morning and afternoon drive time news hours featuring interviews with leading officials from the region; great music and talk from Jimmy Jam, Uncle Ant, Lounging After Dark, DJ Debonair, The Griddle, Albany Free School, Da Block, King Haze's Adjusting the Frequency, Phil Grant's Soul Countdown, Larry Becker's Radio Free Albany's blues, 3 Lefts, New Era, Lovonia Mallory's Sunrise Soul, daily sessions with the Hudson Mohawk News Magazine, deejay zodreve's Jukebox Break, Words Make People and Get Your Hand Out of My Pocket. And let's not forget Pacifica and other friend station's In The Know, Upfront Soul, And You Don't Stop, Afrosonic Soul, Sojourner Truth Radio, Rising Up with Sonali, The Mop Tops & The King, Scenario, We Got The Funk, Black Agenda Report, Down The Road in New Orleans, Juke In The Back, Modern Jazz Today, All Mixed Up, Rise Up with Sonali, Linea Abierto, Sojurner Truth Radio, Black News Report, Hard Knock News, Myndtalk, Economic Update, Building Bridges, The Spin and so many other gems, including another half dozen (at least!) new shows coming down the local pipeline! Even more important, WCAA-LP, 107.3 FM is increasing its training of citizen journalists throughout our neighborhoods to provide more options for community interviews, field recording, centralized editing, and the sort of daily updates that's started bringing in a wealth of new listeners during these recent months of challenge.
And all of this has been done remotely, by volunteers working from their own homes.
People can show their generosity in a variety of ways during #GivingTuesdayNow, whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, every act of generosity counts. The global movement will emphasize opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection even while practicing physical distancing.
At WCAA-LP, 107.3 FM, we’re looking for donations, listeners, producers and volunteers to help spread the word for all our grassroots organizations in downtown Albany. The station has a constant need for monetary support from more than just its producers. But there’s also the fact that simply tuning in, or getting others to check out 107.3 on their radio dials – or their stream, anywhere, on grandarts.org – helps. Spread the word about this new community resource, whether it be to get new
“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday. “#GivingTuesdayNow is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this together, beginning to end. Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. From calling an elderly neighbor to chat to offering translation help; from showing gratitude to our healthcare workers to donating to your local food bank, every act of kindness is a beacon of hope in this crisis. We all have something to give, and every act of human consideration and kindness matters.”
