Flex Fight Series CEO Chris Macchi parts ways with MMA Island as title sponsor due to ‘shady business dealings’ with Kevin Varghese.

Macchi: “We are going to have to, at this time, part ways with MMA Island due to the sole owner and stakeholder, Kevin Varghese. [From him there have been] shady business dealings and lack of transparency and also some legal litigation going on.

“We believe at Flex Fight Series that it is time to part ways. Let this be a little bit of void of caution for anyone that Kevin might be reaching out to in the space of combat sports from one business owner to another, I would say definitely tread carefully when doing business with him.

“There is a situation where we can potentially go back into business with MMA Island if the original owner Chris Santiago decides to take legal action, which I believe he is doing. If it's returned to his rightful hands, I'd love to continue that relationship. I believe MMA Island is a great brand, unfortunately it was just purchased by the wrong person. But we are hearing rumblings that [De Santiago] has voided that contract as well. That being said, at this time we do have to part ways.”

“He didn’t win that fight. But I love what he did. When he got the mic he said, ‘it wasn’t even close!’… I loved it, he sold it.

“I think you can confuse fans, some fans aren’t as educated. So I think there’s two ways to go with it: you could go the super honest route like, ‘Wow! I didn’t think I was gonna win, I was shocked.’ Or you could go, ‘I won for sure.’

“I think he’s got that little McGregor, Uber cocky type of thing and so, I think it worked. I think that’s what early McGregor would have done also.”

Bryce Mitchell regrets fighting at because he had the flu the week before 🤧

“I definitely got to let you know that definitely wasn’t me out there. I had the flu the week before and I thought I’d just tough it out. I didn’t feel good at all in there. That wasn’t myself. I trained a lot harder and could’ve performed a lot better, but I went in there with stuff hurting, not up to 100 percent. Like I said, I had the flu.

“I wish I wouldn’t even took the fight, but I didn’t know it would mess me up that bad. I thought I would be able to hang in there for all three rounds, because that’s what I trained for. I trained for my cardio to be there the whole time. It wasn’t even there one bit of the time.”

“I’m obviously upset. I’ve been in some dark places before, so this really hasn’t really reached the  level that I’ve been to before. I’m still really bitter. But, I believe that my stock went up more than maybe it could have if I won a boring fight or [something].
“I know everyone knows I won. I know I won. The UFC staff, major players on the UFC staff, all the fighters, all the fans, all of the MMA journalists, all of Twitter, the Paddy fans, all the scousers messaging me, ‘Hey, I’m from Liverpool, I’m a Paddy fan, but you won, you got a new fan’.  I could like, complain about it and be bitter publicly and salty. But, I’m gonna take it in stride.”

“I would love a rematch. I’ll go to London to fight him. Yeah, of course. [UFC 286] makes sense. It would be great when I win, I’ll be 2-0. But on paper, 1-1 then we’ll have have a trilogy. We’ll see what he’s really about.”

“I had him running around the cage, backing him up. His punches were graze, I have a couple bruises, but his punches were just landing on my hands and arms. I was landing the bigger shots. I got three takedowns, I had six and a half minutes of control time. He had 30 seconds of control time.

“I stuffed his shots, I reversed his takedowns. So, I just don’t understand what world we’re living in that [Pimblett] won. For some reason, uh, my life has always been go through the mud to get to the other side. So that’s apparently how it’s gonna continue to go. I’m okay with that because it’s all worth it, once I get to the other side, that’s what I’m ready to do.”

“In my mind I was thinking the whole time, ‘This fight needs to turn around quick. The UFC needs a main event in Brazil. They might get one of those guys to fight in Brazil. Nobody said anything, but I was thinking that. But then it comes to the third round when Ankalaev had both legs hurt and Jan had a cut over his eye and I was like, ‘Okay, I guess Brazil is not going to happen.’ Then when I see Ankalaev winning the fight, I said, ‘Well, he’s going to win but it’s not going to be in Brazil.’ Then the craziness happens, that decision that nobody understood. But hey, like I said, let the universe take care of things. Glover, you’re fighting in Brazil. Let’s go! They just called me backstage, I got there and talked to Hunter and Mickey and they asked me and I said, ‘Let’s go.’ Before they said the opponent. They said, ‘You want to fight in Brazil for the belt?’ I said, ‘Let’s go! Whoever.’”

“(Jamahal Hill) is an incredible guy. Tough, tough opponent. Very good fighter. I’m just excited to be training for this, training to get the belt back, prove I’m the best in the world. That’s what I’m here for. I’m very excited. I just want to go out there and fight the best. I wish we had a winner in this fight, but let’s go. Vacant title is still on the line, and that’s it. You can’t take something from a man when he earns it. The vacant title was my shot. [Now] I’ve got to do the work. The universe did it, now I’ve got to do my part and train my ass off and take the belt and make history.”
