Wright County REPRESENT!!

Last night (Aug. 20) a Wright County resident got the Minnesota State Fair started by being crowned the 72nd Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Malorie Thorson, a 20-year-old student at South Dakota State and Waverly resident was selected from 10 finalists at the State Fairgrounds. Princess Kay serves as an ambassador for dairy farm families throughout Minnesota and will make numerous appearances throughout the state over the next year. For those going to the fair, they can see the traditional butter sculpture of Thorson in the Dairy Building at the intersection of Judson Avenue and Underwood Street. Wright County congratulates Malorie for this prestigious honor. She is just the second Princess Kay of the Milky Way from Wright County – joining Kyla Mauk of Howard Lake, who won the title in 2015.

A series of storms are expected to impact Minnesota over the next four days. Most areas can expect more than an inch of rain, but some models have Wright County in the bull's eye of potentially seeing 3-5 inches of rain before the storms move on late Monday.

The Lions Pavilion roared with excitement on the afternoon of Aug. 14, 2025, as the St. Michael Lions Club presented the final payment for the 40-year naming rights agreement ($80,000 donation) of the large picnic pavilion in Town Center Park.
The St. Michael Lion’s Pavilion is a signature feature of Town Center Park, which was designed to be a destination for community gatherings and outdoor fun. The 2,816 square foot pavilion is the home of the Family Night in the Park summer entertainment series, live music, FYCC’s Penny Carnival, and other community events. It is also available for public rental.
The City is grateful to have a strong partnership with the St. Michael Lions Club. The purchase of the pavilion naming rights displays the club’s commitment to the community. Thank you, St. Michael Lions, for your donation and desire to support growth and improvement in the City.
