October is about pumpkin patches, porch lights, and making memories! 🎃

In this month’s Publisher's Note, Melissa Frei reminds us to put down our phones, jump in a leaf pile, and embrace a messier-than-usual fall season built for live moments rather than just photos. 🍂

Plus, exciting news, our Readers' Choice Awards voting has been extended through December 15th! 🎉

P*e yew! What should you actually do when your dog gets sprayed by a skunk? 🦨

Marilyn Haldane of Pretty Pets Grooming shares a Cornell University recipe she says worked immediately on her own dog. 🐶

The mixture uses 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 to 2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid. 💡

One important tip, do not wet your dog’s coat first, since water can trigger a chemical reaction that sets in the smell. 🛁

Save this one before your pup decides to investigate the wrong backyard visitor! 🐾

From Albuquerque to Canada to Virginia, this was one serious road trip! 🚙

Tanoan resident Walter Hollowell shares the latest chapter of his Automotive Stories, including racing his 1970 Triumph TR6 at Virginia International Raceway after competing in the Kastner Cup near Toronto. 🏁

Facing modern sports cars with more horsepower, Walter relied on handling, smart adjustments, and plenty of experience to stay competitive. 🏎️

And little Walter, his eight month old grandson, got his first taste of race weekend too! ❤️

Strong athletes are built through more than practice. 💪

Dr. Jan Jay is helping Tanoan families think about high school sports from the inside out. ⚽

Hydration, balanced nutrition, quality sleep, proper recovery, and listening to pain all play important roles in helping growing athletes perform while protecting their long term health. 💧

A great reminder for every busy student athlete this season! 🏃‍♀️

Beautiful trees are part of what makes Tanoan so special, but growing roots can sometimes create an unexpected problem. 🌳

Tanoan resident Jenn Valdez shares how mature tree roots can gradually lift sidewalks, driveways, patios, and walkways, turning a small uneven spot into a potential trip hazard and liability concern. 🏡

Fortunately, homeowners do not always have to choose between preserving mature trees and maintaining safe concrete. 💚

Taking care of uneven concrete early can help protect your property, preserve curb appeal, and prevent a small repair from becoming a much bigger project. 🌿
