Sad goodbyes, to listeners. Know that we have given our best from places of the heart and soul. The roots of the music we share are precious, powerful enough to make your heart ache or wake you up and feel full of joy. The rich Latin music from near and far, nueva y viejo spicy, sassy, comforting, reinterpreted, revived and transmitted with world wide accessability. What a rush, it has been one hell of a ride! Can you imagine, the challenges, thrillsnchills, the privilege and pleasure of broadcasting music of this quality, presented to fill the air with a kind of musical salve, brought to you with love in times of anguish and uncertainty. Programs enjoyed and savored by many who have encouraged and supported the Raices Collectives' efforts this past, almost two years.

Hoy, por primera vez, se celebra el DÍA DE LOS PUEBLOS INDÍGENAS en todo el país de Estados Unidos. En solidaridad.
“Durante generaciones, las políticas federales han tratado sistemáticamente de asimilar y desplazar a los pueblos nativos y erradicar las culturas nativas”, escribió Biden en la proclamación del Día de los Pueblos Indígenas. “Reconocemos la resistencia y fuerza de los pueblos indígenas y el impacto positivo incalculable que han tenido en cada aspecto de la sociedad estadounidense”. Founded in 1889, UNM sits on the traditional homelands of the Pueblo of Sandia. The original peoples of New Mexico – Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache – since time immemorial, have deep connections to the land and have made significant contributions to the broader community statewide. We honor the land itself and those who remain stewards of this land throughout the generations and also acknowledge our committed relationship to Indigenous peoples. We gratefully recognize our history.

Doesn’t matter where you go, or what you do, or who you do it with, there comes a time when you have to bring it all in for some service. Even herr Doctor Frankenstein had to bring in his flat topped friend to have the oil changed and the bolts in his neck tightened and torqued cada cuándo. There’s no quick lane for that.

And so it is that we’re in the middle of kunm’s semiannual fundraiser, and that’s why you’re reading this: because every so often we have to bring this ol’ station in for some maintenance and upkeep, we are forced to turn to you, the loyal listener, for your help and financial support. We know, ya sabemos muy bien, that times are tough and every little bit helps, and we turn that one right around and we tell you times are tough and every little bit helps. To do the best that we can do we need you to do the least that you can do, and that’s to show your support right now at kunm.org. Go there now.

To perhaps sweeten this deal, we’ve put together an interesting little interview, drawn from the vast personal archives and re-edited for your consideration. You’re asking with whom that could possibly be? Well I won’t ruin that surprise for you but here’s one clue: as a whacky kid he made his first few sales selling “Frankensteins” to tourists at $10 a pop. I’m sure that they’re collectors’ items now but good luck finding one out there.

You’ll have better luck finding this hilarious story on tonight’s very special edition of espejos de aztlan at 7:00 pm on 89.9 fm kunm and kunm.org. While you’re tuned in, take that ten bucks and contribute to our cause. Call some friends and double, triple, quintuple that into a huge show of support for espejos de aztlan and for kunm. Imagine what the last eighteen months without kunm would have been like; we’ve already imagine what that eighteen months without you would have been like and we didn’t like that math at all.
