A majority of Americans now view billionaires as a threat to democracy, with 53% expressing that belief in the latest Harris Poll Americans and Billionaires Survey. That figure represents a notable rise from the same survey conducted last year.

Public attitudes toward wealth concentration are also shifting. The poll shows Americans are increasingly supportive of regulations on high net worth individuals, including limits on wealth accumulation. More than half of respondents said no individual should be allowed to hold more than $10 billion.

The survey further found strong backing for government action, with large majorities supporting a billionaire tax and mandatory philanthropy for those worth over $1 billion. Nearly all respondents acknowledged a significant wealth gap, driven largely by rising living costs, housing shortages, and tax advantages for corporations.

This growing skepticism coincides with heightened attention on billionaire influence in politics, particularly during the administration of President Donald Trump, who received substantial support from wealthy donors and appointed several billionaires to government positions.

‘PROTECTING OUR KIDS’: Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, addressed gender transition treatments for children in an op-ed, stating that evidence of their benefits remains weak and the risks substantial.

He said advocates argue that society must “believe trans kids” and maintain that medical interventions, including blockers, hormones, and surgeries, are the best way to prevent su***de.

Oz argued that if these claims are proven wrong, gender-affirming care for minors may ultimately be judged as a serious medical error.

Democratic lawmaker Pramila Jayapal has expressed concern that the Trump administration has halted all USAID funding to the World Relief Organization. She warned that the reported funding stoppage could have an immediate and severe impact on humanitarian programs around the world.

World Relief provides assistance in multiple countries to refugees, displaced families, and communities affected by conflict, poverty, and natural disasters. Jayapal said the sudden loss of funding threatens essential projects delivering food aid, healthcare services, and emergency support.

Jayapal criticized the decision, stating that cutting humanitarian assistance undermines U.S. moral leadership and worsens instability in crisis-hit regions. She warned that sudden funding cuts could force organizations to shut down programs and reduce staff.

The administration has not confirmed whether the funding freeze has taken place or whether it is temporary. Humanitarian groups and Democratic lawmakers are urging clarity, warning that delays could worsen humanitarian emergencies and harm U.S. standing abroad.

A recent comment by Sarah McBride has drawn attention across social media. She suggested that some Republican leaders focus on benefiting wealthy groups while using attacks on transgender individuals as a political strategy.

Those who agree with her say the statement highlights broader discussions around economic fairness and civil rights.

Others disagree, claiming the comment reduces complicated political issues to broad generalizations about one party.

The discussion has once again raised questions about how political leaders set their priorities today.
