The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is located in Montgomery, Alabama Residents of Alexandria recently made a pilgrimage to Alabama, visiting (among many sites) the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. In the late 1800s two men, Benjamin Thomas and Joseph McCoy were mob-lynched in Alexandria. In honor of their lives and as a tribute to these two men, soil was collected from Alexandria, and delivered to EJI for placement in their Museum. Pillars acknowledging the hundreds of thousands of men lynched in America fill the grounds of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Benjamin Thomas and Joseph McCoy are represented there.
