**WHO DO YOU FOLLOW? | Jehovah Rohi — The Shepherd Who Determines Our Dependence**

You can know the Shepherd's voice and still discover that another voice has been influencing your movement.

This week on **Divine Alignment**, we're continuing our September journey with **Jehovah Rohi — The LORD Our Shepherd** and asking a deeper question:

**Who—or what—has permission to move you?**

As we journey through Isaiah and Galatians, we'll examine the places where approval, expectations, old patterns, fear, religious pressure, false security, and even our own plans can begin competing with the direction of God.

This isn't simply about hearing God's voice.

It's about **trusting the Shepherd enough to let Him determine our dependence.**

And we aren't rushing through these passages.

Some mornings we may not cover everything we planned—and that's okay.

Our goal isn't merely to finish a Bible study. We're creating room for Scripture to expose what needs to be surrendered, bring hope where we've been bound, and give us wisdom we can carry into our personal prayer time with God.

**Familiar doesn't always mean safe. Sometimes it just means practiced.**

You've practiced worrying.

You've practiced fixing.

You've practiced controlling.

You've practiced overexplaining.

So when pressure comes, the old road can still feel easier to find.

But in Galatians 4, Paul reminds believers of something important:

**“So you are no longer a slave…” — Galatians 4:7**

Then he asks:

**Why are you going back?**

Freedom can feel unfamiliar when you've practiced bo***ge longer.

But Jehovah Rohi is teaching us a new way to walk.

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” — Psalm 62:5

What are you trying to make happen?

Not everything you’re working on is wrong.

But sometimes we quietly take responsibility for producing an outcome that only God can provide.

We try to change the person.

Force the timeline.

Open the door.

And eventually, we’re exhausted because we’re carrying **our responsibility and God’s responsibility too.**

In Galatians 3, Paul reminds us that there are things human effort simply cannot produce. God’s promise must be received by faith.

And David gives us the posture in Psalm 61:2:

**“Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”**

David recognized:

**Where I need to go is higher than where I can take myself.**

That isn’t failure.

That’s dependence.

So today, ask:

**What is my responsibility—and what belongs to God?**

You don’t have to become the shepherd so God can take a break.

What if you didn’t stop depending on God because you stopped believing in Him?

What if you simply got good at what He taught you to do?

There were things you once prayed about constantly because you didn’t know what to do.

Then God taught you.

You gained experience.

You developed the skill.

And somewhere between **God teaching you how** and **you learning how**, you may have stopped looking at the Teacher.

In Galatians 3:3, Paul asks:

**“Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?”**

And Isaiah 22:11 shows us people who prepared carefully for trouble—but **did not look to the One who made it.**

Preparation wasn’t the problem.

The question was **dependence**.

So today, ask yourself:

**When did my competence become my confidence?**

Jehovah Rohi isn’t asking us to become incapable.

He’s teaching us how to remain dependent even where He has made us capable.

And when you reach Psalm 60 in today’s reading, notice these two words:

**“With God.”**

That’s our posture.

Not *“God, I’ve got it from here.”*

But:

**“God, You taught me how—and I still want to do it with You.”**

Have you ever noticed that you’re doing just fine… until certain people enter the room?

You know what God has taught you.
You know the boundary He helped you establish.
You know how much you’ve grown.

But then the room changes—and suddenly, so do you.

In Galatians 2, Peter knew the truth. But when certain people arrived, fear caused his behavior to change. Paul described his conduct as being **“not in step with the truth of the gospel.”** — Galatians 2:14

That gives us an important question for Tuesday’s Divine Alignment:

**Where do I already know the truth but still practice the fear?**

**IDENTIFY:** What changes in me around certain people?
**EXAMINE:** What am I afraid I’ll lose?
**SURRENDER:** What fear or dependency needs to lose its influence?
**PRACTICE:** What would walking in step with truth look like the next time the room changes?
