Kitty Chambliss - Loving Without Boundaries

Kitty Chambliss - Loving Without Boundaries Helping couples & individuals navigate consensual non-monogamy & polyamory, release jealousy, & love authentically. That is simply not true!

At Loving Without Boundaries we believe that loving WHO you want HOW you want is a fundamental human right. Many have a fear of discrimination or exclusion as well as a loss of friendships and relationships, partly because they are “coloring outside of the lines” of what society deems appropriate behavior (basically hetero-normative monogamy as the only choice for healthy relationships). Many also

suffer from a lack of support, understanding, and a sense of belonging due to mainstream society telling them they are WRONG for being who they are. Lastly many resort to cheating on their mate – thus creating emotional pain and suffering – because they don’t realize there is another choice. I truly believe that we can improve the quality of our lives by improving the quality of our relationships. I believe that at the end of each of our life journeys, it is love and the quality of our connections that we will cherish and hold dear to our hearts, no matter which path we choose to get there (monogamous, polyamorous, or otherwise). Being vulnerable and truly connecting means knowing who you are and having the courage to share your authentic self with others. The world is taught to believe in the scarcity model based on fear surrounding relationships, and thus many are dysfunctional or fail altogether creating unhappiness, disconnection, and isolation. The Loving Without Boundaries mission helps one see the world in abundance (vs. scarcity) with a sense of happiness that the world (and healthy, loving relationships) are within our control. My mission is also to teach people that they have more choices than they may realize, as well as how to love themselves better replacing self-hatred for being their authentic, genuine selves. I strive to help by offering a supportive community here at Loving Without Boundaries (LWB) as well as actionable advice through writing articles, relationship coaching, public speaking, effective tools and a place we can call home while we all navigate these waters in our unique quest for happiness and joy. The Loving Without Boundaries community is geared towards those practicing ethical non-monogamy of all kinds with an emphasis on polyamory and the poly-curious. The world needs to stop teaching people that hetero-normative monogamy is the only way to have healthy productive relationships. There are MANY ways to have healthy, loving relationships. On a related note I’m not OK with how s*x negativity is so prevalent across the globe and even talking about s*x is shunned in some circles. There is nothing wrong with talking about something as natural as s*x. Expressions of love through the union of human beings is beautiful. I stand behind the philosophy of Woodhull’s Sexual Freedom Alliance. Woodhull envisions a world that recognizes s*xual freedom as the fundamental human right of all individuals (both men and women alike) to develop and express their unique s*xuality; to be personally autonomous with regard to bodily integrity and expression; and to enjoy s*xual dignity, privacy and consensual s*xual expression without societal or governmental interference, coercion or stigmatization. With love and gratitude,

In ENM and polyamorous relationships, the words “rules,” “boundaries,” and “agreements” get used interchangeably all the time.

They are not the same thing.

Rules are typically designed to control another person’s behavior.

Boundaries are about you — your own values, your own limits, what YOU will and won’t do.

Agreements are mutual — both people’s needs in the room, both people’s voices in the making, both people able to revisit them as things evolve.

When you call an agreement a rule, you’ve already changed the power dynamic. When you try to make your boundary someone else’s rule, you’ve left your partner out of the conversation.

Getting the words right isn’t pedantic. It tells you who has the power in the dynamic you’re creating.

Rules control. Boundaries protect. Agreements connect.

People ask me why I use the term ENM — ethical non-monogamy — instead of CNM (consensual non-monogamy).

The answer is one word: ethical.

Because consensual and ethical are not the same thing.

Consensual means everyone said yes. Ethical means everyone is genuinely honored. Those are not always the same.

A one-pen*s policy (OPP) — where one partner is restricted from relationships with other men while their partner remains free — can be technically consensual. But is it ethical? Does it treat both people with genuine equality?

You can have consent and still have a dynamic that benefits one person at the cost of another.

That’s why I use ‘ethical.’ Not to judge anyone’s specific agreements. But to hold a higher bar than just: did everyone technically agree?

The bar I hold: is everyone genuinely honored? Is this dynamic built on real respect, real transparency, real fairness?

Consent is the floor. Not the ceiling.

ENM. Ethical non-monogamy. I use that word on purpose.

Jealousy is a big topic (especially for those that practice consensual non-monogamy). It's no surprise we think, talk, and write about it a lot because it has a huge impact on our personal happiness and relationship health.

The #1 best-selling book “Jealousy Survival Guide” focuses on jealousy in consensually non-monogamous relationships, what it is, how it expresses, and specific ways to manage it. But it also goes much further than jealousy and relationships. In it, I direct you through self-discovery and start you on an optimistic path for growth.

Only 18% of American households today fit the traditional nuclear family model. Down from 40% in 1970.

Most of us were handed a relationship blueprint designed for a world that 82% of people no longer live in.

If you spent years feeling broken because monogamy didn’t fit you — that is not a character flaw. That is what happens when you try to live in a blueprint that was never designed for your shape.

We don’t call a shoe broken because it doesn’t fit every foot. We find the right shoe.

The relationship model most of us inherited was built for one version of one era. Ethical non-monogamy (ENM) and polyamory aren’t new ideas. They’re old ideas that finally have names and language and community.

And the people who found their way here — through shame and years of feeling like the outlier — weren’t broken. They were ahead of the data.

You are not the outlier. You are the 82%.

There’s a specific type of jealousy in ENM and polyamorous relationships that hits hardest when your partner mentions their other partner.

You probably just call it jealousy. It has a more specific name: comparison jealousy.

It’s the spiral that happens when you start measuring yourself against your partner’s other partner — their looks, their energy, how much your partner lights up talking about them. And then you do the math: am I enough? Am I more? Am I less?

Here’s what makes it different from regular jealousy. Regular jealousy is about fear of loss. Comparison jealousy adds a layer: you’re actively deciding you’re the inferior option. You’re doing the ranking yourself — and then reacting to the ranking you invented.

Self-awareness is the first step. Then you can actually do something about it.

In this case: you’re not reacting to your metamour (your partner’s partner). You’re reacting to your own story about your worth. The work is getting grounded in who you actually are — not who you fear you might be compared to someone else.

Comparison jealousy is you ranking yourself in a competition nobody signed you up for.

If you’ve ever Googled “what’s the difference between polyamory and an open relationship” — this one is for you.

They all live under the same umbrella. That umbrella is called ethical non-monogamy (ENM).

Any consensual relationship structure that isn’t strictly monogamous lives under it. The shared root of all of them: honesty and consent.

But the branches are different:

Polyamory — love-first. Multiple committed emotional relationships.

Open relationships — a primary bond with outside connections that can be s*xual and sometimes romantic.

Swinging — couple-centered and recreational, often with emotional exclusivity kept inside the primary couple.

Relationship anarchy, solo poly, monogamish — all on the spectrum.

None of these is better or more evolved than the others. They’re different ways of loving honestly.

Different branches. Same tree. Same roots.

I used to describe myself as a cheating serial monogamist.

Not because I was a bad person. Because I had never been given permission to question the relationship model I inherited.

The difference between cheating and ethical non-monogamy (ENM)? It’s simpler than most people think.

Cheating is when you violate the agreements of your relationship.

ENM — ethical non-monogamy — is when non-monogamy IS the agreement.

Cheating happens in secret. ENM happens in the open, with everyone knowing and everyone consenting.

Cheating protects one person’s desire at the expense of another person’s reality. ENM asks everyone to be honest about what’s real — even when that’s hard.

Cheating is a secret. Ethical non-monogamy is a conversation. That’s the difference.
