For those who have been following this little guy's journey...

Update from Ripley: Thanks to everyone who donated to Sarah's Fund, Ripley received the surgery he needed to remove his irreparably damaged leg. Now he'll be able to run and play — like a puppy should — without being hindered. Ripley is currently recovering with one of our foster families who will help him continue to heal until he is ready to find a family to call his own.

Ripley will spend up to two weeks recovering in his foster home, but, once he receives his final check-up with our veterinarian here at the AWLA, he will be ready to meet his future family. Because we expect many adopters will be eager to welcome Ripley into their family, we will have a special adoption process for him.

While we do not have information about Ripley's breed, we believe he is a terrier mix, which may include Pit Bull Terrier and other breeds. At just 9 weeks old, Ripley still has a lot of growing up to do, and we estimate he could reach as much as 50 pounds as an adult.

Anyone interested in adopting Ripley can submit an application, one of which will be randomly selected on Monday, August 24. Ripley will be ready to head home that same day. Applications may be submitted now until Sunday, August 23, and you can find his adoption application at AlexandriaAnimals.org/AdoptRipley.

Thank you to everyone who helped give Ripley such a bright future!

Some of the sand in the sand bags Alexandria provided yesterday came from the glass we’ve been recycling in the purple bins! Way to recycle, Alexandria!

Wondering what to do with your used sandbags? You can keep them and use them during another storm, cut them open and use the sand in your garden, or return them to the City at 2900 Business Center Drive—we have a sign up and pallets out, so you’ll know exactly where to put them. Please don’t dump them in alleys or on sidewalks, and do NOT put them in with your trash or recycling! They’re too heavy for our collection crew members to safely lift when they empty your cans!

Many of the bags distributed yesterday contained sand made from glass that *you* recycled by depositing it in the City’s purple glass-only bins—let's keep re-using it!
