On Saturday, September 12, the ASBC Health and Wellness Ministry, led by President hosted its annual Health Fair. This year’s energetic theme was “Let’s Go Crazy 4 Wellness!”

I created a small montage highlighting some of the people, activities, and special moments from the the kickoff gathering held in the sanctuary. Vendors, dedicated ministry volunteers, and participants came together for a brief discussion about health and wellness, followed by a little aerobics to get everyone up and moving!

The opening session concluded with prayer led by our Pastor, who certainly leads by example when it comes to staying active. During a brief conversation, he mentioned that he had already walked seven miles that day!

It was a wonderful way to begin a day devoted to encouraging healthier choices, physical activity, fellowship, and overall wellness. Many thanks to President Jenkins, the Health and Wellness Ministry, the vendors, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this year’s Health Fair a meaningful and successful event. Let’s Go Crazy 4 Wellness! We will never forget Sister Ada Lee Mason-Acker. A native of Picayune, Mississippi, Ada L. Mason-Acker served as a budget analyst for the U.S. Army. She graduated from Jackson State University in 1973 and worked in the banking industry until she began her career with the U.S. government in 1980.

A strong-willed woman, she always strived for the best – not only in herself, but in her ability to set an example of excellence for others. Her enthusiasm for living showed in everything she did – in her appreciation of the differences among people she knew, in the enjoyment she derived from the fresh cut flowers that always filled her home, in her desire to explore the parts of the world she had never seen, in her eagerness to help her children avoid the struggles she, herself, had faced and overcome, and in her analytical approach to every decision she made.

As a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, she sang in the choir and worked in the youth ministry and student tutorial ministry. Her involvement in her church reflected the deep sense of spirituality she felt and lived. Her Christian beliefs fueled her and gave her strength. It is no surprise that her favorite flower was the lily – the symbol of grace and eternal life.

She leaves her husband, Sherman L. Acker, Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia; a daughter, Shannon Mason; a son, Shaun Mason; a stepson, Matthew Acker; three sisters and one brother; and her mother, Mrs. Sareatha Wilson of Gulfport, Mississippi.

Happy Birthday to one of our treasured Membership Medalists, Sister !

Sister Barbara has been a faithful member of for more than 65 years! Fifteen years ago, she was presented with a Membership Medal commemorating more than 50 years of faithful membership and service to our church family.

Today, we celebrate not only her birthday, but also the wonderful legacy of faith, fellowship, and service she continues to represent.

Sister Barbara, we wish you the very best on this, your born day! May God continue to bless you with joy, good health, peace, and many more wonderful birthdays to come. 🎂🎉❤️
