Today was one of my planned two-a-day workout days. I completed a 1,800-yard swim in 1 hour and 4 minutes and later walked 2 miles in 52 minutes and 11 seconds.

After adjusting my workout schedule to better handle the summer heat and humidity, I’m focusing on combining swimming with shorter walks rather than forcing longer outdoor workouts that leave me completely drained.

The goal remains the same: continue losing weight, improve my fitness, and stay consistent.

I’m still working toward the Rocket City Half Marathon in December, but right now the focus is on building a foundation that I can maintain throughout the summer.

Every workout is another investment in the future version of myself.

Day 67 of showing up for myself.

Today’s workout was a 1,800-yard swim completed in 1 hour and 1 minute.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve realized that trying to force long walks through an Alabama summer isn’t the best approach for me right now. The heat and humidity have been taking a lot out of me, and I don’t enjoy doing long walks indoors on a treadmill or track.

Because of that, I’m making some adjustments.

My plan is to do three two-a-day workout days each week consisting of a 2-mile walk and a 1,800-yard swim. I’ll also have three days of 2-mile walks and one swim-only day each week.

My hope is that this approach helps me continue losing weight, improves my fitness, and keeps me consistent through the summer months.

I’m still committed to walking the Rocket City Half Marathon in December. The plan is to return to longer training walks in September when the weather becomes more manageable.

The more weight I lose, the easier everything becomes. Right now, consistency is the priority.

Day 66 of showing up for myself.

Today’s workout was a 2.51-mile walk completed in 1 hour and 14 minutes.

The goal was 5.5 miles, but it just wasn’t my day. I got a later start than planned, the humidity was still extremely high, my legs felt tired and heavy, and I never really found any energy. Then the rain arrived and made the decision for me.

I also didn’t sleep well last night, which I’m sure contributed to how I felt during the walk.

One thing I’ve learned during this journey is that success isn’t determined by whether every workout goes exactly as planned. Success is continuing to show up, listen to your body, and make adjustments when needed.

Because of how difficult the humidity has been lately, I’ve decided that any walk longer than 1.5 miles will move indoors to the gym. The goal is to train consistently and safely, not to suffer through miserable conditions just to prove a point.

I’m still training for the Rocket City Half Marathon. I’m still working to lose over 300 pounds. And I’m still moving forward, even on the tougher days.

Day 65 of showing up for myself.

Today’s workout was a 1,800-yard swim completed in exactly 1 hour.

I’m still feeling energized by this morning’s weigh-in. I weighed in at 453 pounds, which means I lost 12 pounds during May and 56 pounds so far in 2026.

It’s easy to focus on what still needs to be done, but days like today remind me to take a moment and appreciate how far I’ve already come. The small choices made every day really do add up over time.

Tomorrow is my scheduled 5.5-mile walk as I continue training for the Rocket City Half Marathon. I’ll be setting the alarm early to try and beat the summer heat.

The next weigh-in is July 1st. Until then, it’s time to keep showing up.

June 1st Monthly Weigh-In.

May was a month I’m proud of.

I worked out every single day, continued building my walking and swimming fitness, and stayed committed to eating in a calorie deficit. There were days when I was tired, days when the weather made things difficult, and days when motivation wasn’t particularly high, but I kept showing up anyway.

That’s what I’m learning this journey is really about. Consistency.

The monthly weigh-in is one snapshot in time, but the habits I’m building are what matter most. I’m grateful for the support, encouragement, and accountability that all of you provide along the way.

On to June.

Once I get in the groove, I don’t wanna stop.

Day 64 of showing up for myself.

Today’s workout was 1.4 miles in 52 minutes and 51 seconds while mowing the grass. Pace wasn’t exactly the priority today.

Tomorrow is my monthly weigh-in, and like a lot of people on a weight loss journey, I’ve spent some time thinking about what the scale might say. After traveling this week, drinking less water than usual, and eating a little more than normal, my weight was higher than expected this morning.

I’m trying to remind myself that temporary fluctuations happen. The important thing is getting back to the habits that have helped me lose the weight I’ve already lost.

Starting in June, I also won’t be logging mowing as a workout anymore because it skews my pace averages. The yard work will still happen, but it’ll be separate from my daily workouts.

Looking forward to seeing what June has in store.
