The federal shutdown has suspended SNAP benefits for 5.5 million Californians—$1.1 billion in monthly food assistance. Nearly 40% of SNAP recipients are children.

Starting November 1, millions of families lost access to their primary source of food assistance for dinner, weekends, and holidays. Food insecurity directly impacts student success, leading to lower academic achievement and increased behavioral challenges.

California PTA's mission is to advocate for the education, health, safety, and well-being of every child. We urge immediate release of federal contingency funds to ensure children have the nutrition they need to learn and thrive.

As PTA members and advocates for every child, we must support families during this crisis.

Together, we can make a difference. Every child deserves to arrive at school ready to learn, with healthy minds and bodies.
