Hocus Pocus Cleaning was created by a social worker, so it's no surprise that our mission is to collectively empower women through team-building, and prioritizing mental health to ensure all women look and feel their best. Our vision is to play a pivotal role in smoothly transitioning first-time homebuyers, new moms, dual-working households, empty-nesters, elderly, injured, or retired people. When considering mental health, research finds that those with a clean home also report lower levels of depression, anxiety, or other related disorders!

8 DAYS TO 10 YEARS ✨

I never planned on building a team. Actually, I never really planned on keeping the business open long-term.

I hired one person because I was doing my internship and needed help.

Then grad school was coming, so I brought on a few more people.

At that point, we had maybe 15 recurring clients and this was still very, very part-time.

Then COVID happened. When things started opening back up, we had around 60 clients and six people on the team.

So I kept hiring.

Then the team got bigger.
The client list got bigger.
The responsibility got bigger.

And somewhere along the way, this thing I thought would be temporary became an actual job.

There was no master plan.

No 10-year vision.

No moment where I decided, “I’m going to build a company.”

I just kept looking at what was in front of me and figuring out what needed to happen next.

One person.
Then a few more.
Then 15 clients.
Then 60.
Then a team.
Then 100.
Then 200.
Then awards.
Then 300.
Then 400.
Then all of this.

At some point, I looked around and realized it was a real company. ⭐️

9 DAYS TO 10 YEARS ✨

Our first clients deserve medals.

We were learning everything in real time.

Like the time we used Pledge furniture polish on the floors and an entire family slipped down the steps right before Thanksgiving.

Or the client who told us what she was going to pay us… and we just accepted it ($20/hour if anyone’s wondering)

Or me, pregnant, wedged between a wall and a bed changing sheets for a family with two sets of twins.

One woman interviewed me in her great room for over an hour before she trusted us enough to clean her home.

Another came to us because her hairdresser told her about us.

And somehow, a shocking number of these people are STILL with us.

That part gets me.

Before the reviews.
Before the awards.
Before we knew what the hell we were doing.

People trusted us.

And they told other people to trust us too.
That is quite literally how Hocus Pocus was built.

One slightly chaotic house at a time. ✨

10 DAYS TO 10 YEARS ✨
We had absolutely no freakin clue what we were doing.

I was in school full time.
We were taking whatever jobs came our way.

Standing on expensive kitchen islands.
Climbing 30 ft ladders.
Hauling cleaning supplies around while pregnant.

There was no master plan.
No polished strategy.
No “I always dreamed of owning a cleaning company.”
(Because I absolutely did not.)

It was messy, chaotic, and a lot of it was made up as we went.

The business model was basically:
“Screw it. We’ll figure it out.”

And somehow, we did.
Again and again and again (still figuring it out!)

Looking back now (and cringing through these photos), I think that’s really how we got here:
Sheer grit.
A concerning amount of audacity.
And refusing to quit.

And now somehow we’re 10 days away from 10 years.✨

I didn’t build a team of 30 so I could spend my entire day texting, “Where are you?”

The bigger your field team gets, the more important visibility and systems become.
