🐾 Pet of the Week! With Second Chance Animal Shelter. Powered by Alpena GMC 🐾

Meet Robin! This sweet fellow was found with his brother outside with an eye injury. He's healed up now but does have some minor sight issues in his one eye, but it hasn't slowed him down a bit. He is super playful and loves to chase toys around his foster Mom's house, then settle in for a cat nap.

He's approximately 14 weeks old; has age appropriate vaccinations, is a litter box pro and comes with a certificate for a free neuter when he's old enough.

If you would like to meet Robin, contact Second Chance through their page, email [email protected] or call (989) 340-1700.

You have the power to make a difference in our community. On Saturday, September 20th from 1-3 pm, the League of Women Voters of NE Michigan is bringing together several local food pantries and charitable food organizations in one place!!!
This is your chance to directly connect with the groups fighting hunger in our community. You can talk to them, learn about their specific needs, and choose how you want to help—whether it's through a donation, a commitment of your time as a volunteer, or by offering other resources.
The event is open to the public with no admission charge and will be held in the Judi Stillion Room at the Alpena County Library”

September is 'Hunger Action Month" and our food program workers are in dire need of our help. While the food insecurity rate in the state of Michigan is 8.4%, ours in Alpena County is 18.7% overall and 22% for our children. One in four of our kids don't know where their next meal is coming from. This is unacceptable!

LWVNEMI is hosting an event to connect these programs with additional volunteers and donors. We are expecting over 16 food programs to participate on the 20th. Look for weekly highlights that detail exactly where help is needed and you can invest!
