Describing it as a “new plague” sweeping through the nation, Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), warned of a mounting crisis that is leaving no segment of society untouched. His July 8 declaration frames online gambling not merely as a moral failing or a cultural vice, but as an emerging public health emergency and a social toxin spreading with silent speed.

(ZENIT News / Manila, 07.13.2025).- The Philippine Church confronts a society increasingly shaped by digital technology and its bishops have issued one of their most forceful pastoral statements in recent memory—this time not about war or poverty, but about a new and surreptitious threat: online g...

In an unprecedented collaboration, three of the United Kingdom’s leading statistical agencies have unveiled a sweeping portrait of national identity—one that lays bare the seismic shifts occurring across the realms of faith, marriage, and belief. The data, newly synthesized from the once-disparate 2021 census in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and the delayed 2022 census in Scotland, reveals a United Kingdom in the midst of a quiet but unmistakable transformation.

Perhaps the most striking revelation: fewer than half of UK residents now identify as Christian. The number, 46.64% of nearly 67 million respondents, marks a turning point for a country historically shaped by Anglican cathedrals and Catholic parishes

On the morning of Sunday, July 13, Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass in the Pontifical Parish of St. Thomas of Villanova, a few meters from the Apostolic Palace of Castelgandolfo where he is spending a few days of rest. We offer below the English translation of the Pope’s homily, which revolved around the explanation of the parable of the Good Samaritan.

It took less than seven months for Notre-Dame de Paris to reclaim its place at the heart of France’s cultural and spiritual landscape. Since reopening its doors on December 7, 2024, more than six million people have stepped back into the centuries-old cathedral that once stood on the brink of ruin.

If this rhythm continues, the cathedral could reach an astonishing 12 million visits by the end of the year, eclipsing not only its pre-2019 attendance figures, but also surpassing the Eiffel Tower to become the most visited monument in France

At midday on Sunday, July 13, Pope Leo XIV prayed the Angelus with hundreds of pilgrims who had come to the Pontifical Villa of Castelgandolfo, just outside Rome, to see and hear him. Moments before the Pope presided over the Eucharistic concelebration and then moved to the entrance door of the Apostolic Palace to deliver his Sunday address and then pray the Angelus. We offer the English translation of the Pope’s words, with which he answered the question “how to inherit eternal life”.

As the Eternal City braces for a summer unlike any other, one word echoes through the narrow Roman streets and ancient basilicas: Jubilee. From July 28 to August 3, Rome will host an anticipated one million young people for the 2025 Jubilee of Youth, a global gathering that promises to be as spiritually charged as it is logistically monumental.

In an era marked by declining religious affiliation and demographic upheavals, a surprising pulse still beats within many American Catholic communities: the baptism of infants. The 2024 edition of the Official Catholic Directory has unveiled an intricate and revealing map of sacramental life across the 175 Latin-rite dioceses in the United States. Beneath the sheer numbers lies a story not only of birth rates, but of cultural vitality, pastoral leadership, and the unspoken hopes of parents seeking grace for their children.

The national figure of 480,905 infant baptisms may sound robust, but it conceals stark regional contrasts. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles stands alone, not just leading the pack with over 46,000 baptisms, but outpacing the next three dioceses combined

Tuesday, July 8, Israeli settlers set several fires near the town cemetery and the ancient 5th-century Church of St. George, threatening one of the oldest religious sites in Palestine. Although many Catholic Masses have been held at the famous Anglican cathedral, this was a historic ‘first’ in that it was the first time a papal nuncio had celebrated Mass there. It is particularly significant as a papal legate was said to have been present when the saint’s body was moved.
