Salvatore A. Fiumefreddo was born on March 17, 1956 and lived in Manalapan, NJ. He most commonly went by the nickname, Sal. He had a son, Anthony, who was 11 years old at the time of Sal’s passing. Sal had been divorced for years and had given up on finding another partner when he met his sweetheart, Joan Chang Fiumefreddo, who shared the same situation. It was love at first sight. Joan remembered, “He had the most beautiful blue eyes and incredible head of black hair.” Two weeks later, a friend got them together at a backyard barbecue, and six weeks after that, they were flying to Las Vegas to get married. Sal and Joan were married on September 29, 2000. They lived together in Manalapan, with Joan’s daughter, Rebecca, who was 7 years old. Sal loved cooking and could make spaghetti sauce and pizza from scratch.
Sal worked as a telephone technician for IPC Kleinknect Electric Company. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Sal was assigned to a job helping Cantor Fitzgerald at their 105th floor office in the World Trade Center’s North Tower. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Sal was working on the 105th floor when Flight 11 struck the North Tower, leaving his floor and all of Cantor’s offices above the impassable impact zone. Unfortunately, no one working at Cantor Fitzgerald’s offices survived the attack, including Sal. Though his life was sadly cut short on September 11th, Sal’s vibrant spirit lives on forever in love, memory, and legacy. He will never be forgotten.
