ROCK & ROLL CALL 📞🍸📞☎️

Our guest this week is Margaret Ross of THE COOKIES. an R&B girl group formed in 1954 in Brooklyn, New York. The group first found success as both recording artists and, more famously, as back-up singers for other performers.
Their breakthrough came after winning Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater, which led to a recording contract with Atlantic Records in 1955.
Hit-Making Power: The group hit the charts with:
• “Chains” (1962), later covered by the Beatles,
• “Don’t Say Nothin’ Bad (About My Baby)” (1963), which reached #3 on the Billboard R&B chart and #7 on the pop chart,
• “Girls Grow Up Faster Than Boys” (1963).
Besides their success with their own hit records - The Cookies also led the field with their extensive work as backing vocalists. They sang on major records for artists such as Ray Charles, Neil Sedaka, Connie Francis, Mel Tormé, Tony Orlando, and for Little Eva’s “The Loco-Motion,” which shot to number one.
The Cookies success inspired many future groups to pursue both group and support roles. They truly became recording industry role models.
Join the Cuz and let’s welcome a delightful Cookie to our show -
Welcome MARGARET ROSS.
