AMARILLO, TX — A local Korean War veteran will be recognized for his selfless service and sacrifice at an upcoming ceremony in Amarillo. The Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal will be presented to Airman First Class Tugwell as an expression of appreciation from the Korean government.
The ceremony will serve as a moment to formally thank Tugwell for his enduring courage and commitment. Ceremony will be held at 6:30PM Wednesday 10 December 2025 at the Amarillo VFW located at 1401 SW 8thAve, Amarillo, Texas 79101.
Claud Tugwell Jr. served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, which lasted from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. The Ambassador for Peace Medal honors the American service members who defended the freedom of the Republic of Korea during the conflict, often referred to as "The Forgotten War."
The medal is a commemorative gesture from the Republic of Korea to American veterans who served in the Korean War theater of operations or participated in UN peacekeeping operations until the end of 1955. It signifies the lasting gratitude of the Korean people for the sacrifices made by the American military.
The ceremony is open to the public and media is invited to attend the ceremony to capture this significant recognition of a local hero.
