Dear Melissa
I have an 8-year-old son who has decided that the only acceptable dinner on Earth is pizza. Every night around 5 o’clock, he starts begging for it, and if he finds out we’re having anything else—chicken, pasta, even his former favorite tacos—he throws a full-blown fit. I’m talking tears, yelling, stomping, the whole production. I’ve tried reasoning with him, offering choices and even letting him help plan meals, but nothing seems to matter unless a pizza box is involved. My friends and family tell me I’m making things worse by giving in. They say I need to “hold the line” or he’ll never grow out of this phase. What would you do if you were me? Give in or not? Kid’s gotta eat!
