Dear Melissa
My best friend just got engaged, and I’m struggling with how to handle it. I’ve met her fiancé a few times, and something about him feels off to me. He’s charming on the surface, but there are small red flags. He avoids answering direct questions, seems controlling in subtle ways, and I’ve caught him in a couple of small lies. I want to protect my friend, but I also don’t want to come across as jealous or overstepping. Should I tell her my concerns or stay quiet and let her figure things out on her own? I care about her deeply, but I’m afraid saying something might ruin our friendship. I sometimes think I wouldn't be a good friend if I didn't say anything.
