A new line of thunderstorms is slowly approaching the western Panhandle this evening. The primary concern with this line is the potential for strong wind gusts up to 55 mph. Additionally, localized areas may experience small hail and heavy rainfall. Ensure you have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Based off the current radar analysis and assessment on the environment, here is the current forecast of the thunderstorm chance, especially for the central and western Panhandles leading up to the late evening hours, if the line of thunderstorms continue on their current trajectory. Still could see a severe or two during this time period.

On Saturday September 13, at 9:54am, officers were called to the Rick Husband International airport on a suspicious bag located by TSA. The bag was reported to have tested positive for explosive powder. The airport was placed on lockdown and the APD bomb team responded. They were able to determine the bag was clear and there was no danger to the public. The airport was opened back up around 12:13pm. We understand this caused great concern to all passengers and any traffic in and around the airport. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation while our officers and airport personnel worked through this incident.
