Dear Melissa
My parents are planning a family vacation between Christmas and New Year’s and invited me to go. I asked my boss for the time off, but they said no. My parents think I should just quit and find a new job when I get back and they’ve even offered to help cover the lost income. I don’t feel a strong sense of loyalty to the company, but this is my first real job, and I’m worried that quitting so soon would look bad on my resume. Should I take the trip and start fresh or stay put and risk missing out on a memory I can never get back?

Dear Melissa
I’m the oldest of four and the executor of my late mother’s estate. My younger brother was disinherited more than a decade ago after some bad choices, and I’m the only one who’s stayed in touch with him. My mother’s will gives me broad discretion to decide how to divide the cash portion of her estate among the siblings. Everyone else is doing fine financially, but my little brother is barely scraping by. I want to give him a share, but I know my sisters will be furious. They think he deserves nothing. Should I tell them what I plan to do and risk upsetting them or quietly give him something and live with the fallout if they ever find out?
