Bill Owens told a New York Press Club event that Pelley 'can smell fraud a mile away.'

Owens, receiving the New York Press Club’s Gabe Pressman Truth to Power Award, said that Pelley 'stood up the way that I did a year ago and I couldn’t be prouder of him, and I know all the people at 60 Minutes couldn’t be prouder of him.'..."

Owens praised the correspondent for speaking out about the changes at the show.

"...ABC News and National Geographic are among the top winners at night one of the 2026 News & Documentary Emmy Awards on Wednesday.

ABC World News Tonight with David Muir took home the award for outstanding live news program, while CNN Worldwide’s The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper won the award for outstanding recorded news program.

Overall, ABC received eight awards, Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller via National Geographic/Muck Media won seven Emmys and CNN took home four."

The awards were handed out at the Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City on Wednesday.

NEW EPISODE: Joining host Michael Azevedo on a new episode of Making Media Now is director Theo Rigby to discuss his documentary "If I Could Stay," which will be premiere on PBS on June 1 and remain available to stream on PBS.org and via the PBS app for 90 days thereafter.

Set in Colorado, "If I Could Stay" follows two undocumented mothers, Jeanette and Ingrid, as they face deportation and the threat of being separated from their young children.

In a life-altering decision, they choose to seek sanctuary inside local churches in defiance of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Filmed over several emotionally charged years, their journey unfolds amid constant uncertainty, legal battles, and the quiet bravery of life in refuge.
