Interested in getting those credits up during the summer? Look no further! Professor will be teaching COMM 140 Intro to Film Studies!

This course provides students with an introduction to the fundamental approaches, theories, and perspectives essential for an understanding film and its major transformations across the 20th-century. Throughout the term we will explore the many ways in which film has been a vehicle for both propaganda and a tool for counterinsurgency. We will also examine how the origins of film not only established its role as a global medium but how exile-ship, diversity, immigration, and gender, race, and class have all shaped approaches to filmmaking.

What an amazing closing night to our 33rd MMFF festival season!!!!!!!
We had the privilege of hosting “F*cktoys” (Annapurna Sriram, 2025) co-star Sadie Scott for a very special Q&A. Accompanied with Four Chambers’ short film, “A Cyborg Manifesto” (2020), last night’s screening was a fantastic culmination of this festival season. Thank you Sadie, thank you to the audience for filling the theater with love, and thank you to the team behind the entire operation!

Stay tuned for our upcoming recap reels of last night and the rest of the festival!!

THANK YOU to everyone who donated to Film Studies today! We raised over $1,000 in just one hour—a huge boost for our students. During our Power Hour, we competed against 357 areas across campus and (drumroll…) we placed in the top 5, earning an additional $500.
Your support made this possible—and it shows. Thank you for getting us there!
PLEASE KEEP DONATING! No matter how small, every contribution makes a difference.
With gratitude,
The Film Studies Team

Today, Thursday, April 30 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. (ET), we will take part in the UMassGives fundraising competition, and we need your help.

During this one-hour Power Hour, the campus group with the highest number of donors wins an extra $2,000 to support students and programs.

Here’s the key: It’s not about how much you give, it’s about how many people give. A donation of $5 is enough to make a difference.
Why your support matters:
Your gift helps Film Studies to fund student-led projects and purchase film equipment

How you can help (it takes 1 minute):
—click on link in bio
—Give $5 or more.
—Donate exactly between 11:00–12:00 p.m. on Thursday April 30
—Share this with a few friends or colleagues!

If we come together, we can turn small gifts into a big win for our students.
Thank you for being part of the Film Studies community, and for showing up when it counts.
