Check out two new releases by composer Craig Adams...
Sonder for Concert Band and Incandescence for Brass Ensemble

Of Sonder, Adams writes "Sonder is the realization that every random person you see lives a life as vivid, complex, and detailed as your own. It’s the understanding that your narrative is not singular, that countless lives around you are filled with ambitions, hopes, dreams, worries, stressors, and celebrations."

Incandescence, winner of the 2024-2025 Dallas Winds Fanfare Composition Contest, is written for two antiphonal choirs of brass. This piece explores the intense brightness and brilliant luminosity of objects of lights, specifically people that light up a room!

New from Ryan George...
Saddle Up! is a new grade-3 work commissioned by the Henry Middle School Band (Cedar Park TX), for their performance at the 2025 Western International Band Conference in Seattle, Washington. The piece is a “tip of the hat” to the band’s home state, and inspired by the Old West.

Hip Knot by Philip Tappan
Now available at murphymusicpress.com

This Grade 6 work explores hip hop as a set of processes—sampling, rhythmic flow, and groove—and translates those ideas into a concert band context. Tappan writes "Hip Knot is best understood as a study—an exploration of how hip hop’s structural and rhythmic ideas can inhabit a wind ensemble medium. Its aim is not stylistic replication, but translation: placing two musical worlds into conversation and discovering where they meaningfully intersect."

New from Nicole Piunno
Wilderness of Mirrors for Wind Ensemble

Piunno writes: "A wilderness of mirrors is a state in which the surfaces of life reflect one another without revealing what lies beyond them. T.S. Eliot used this image to describe the spiritual atmosphere of modern culture, in which transcendence no longer anchors our understanding of reality. Without a horizon beyond the self, reality becomes a sequence of reflections, interpretations, and projections.

The term has also been used in the world of espionage, where deception and interpretation blur together until nothing can be taken at face value. One no longer walks on firm ground, but wanders through images of images in search of what is real. This condition increasingly describes modern life. We are surrounded by constant interpretation, yet struggle to locate what is ultimately real.

Wilderness of Mirrors names the tension of living in a world of appearances while longing for truth grounded beyond the self."
