The success of ENHYPEN’s tour is a reflection of the continuing global nature of K-Pop. While world tours were only afforded to the biggest acts at the time (think: 2NE1, BigBang, Girls’ Generation, etc.), it is now a standard for groups across the industry, similar to how artists in the West release music, followed by a tour. 🌎

Beyond tours, K-Pop artists such as ENHYPEN and their peers continue to be part of music culture, not as a subgenre, but at large. This year alone, we saw IVE and Stray Kids at Lollapalooza, (G)I-DLE at Head in the Clouds as well as ATEEZ and fellow HYBE group Le Sserafim at Coachella. Audiences can engage with their favorite groups (or soloists) at a much closer stage than ever before. The success of these tours and large turnout for music festivals signal to these companies that there is a global demand for their groups.

For ENHYPEN, their dominance in 4th gen K-Pop will continue with their ongoing Prada ambassadorship and latest mini album “Romance: Untold,” which, as a first, contains songs written by the members (including Heeseung, who kept his promise)!

Liminal and atmospheric, like the syrupy exhaustion of boarding a red-eye flight at an ungodly hour, Kai Tak’s latest release, “Blush,” leans across the aisle and asks you where you’re going.

Named after the retired airport in Hong Kong, Kai Tak is an LA-based music collective led by Chris King of Cold Showers. Featuring Claire Roddy of Dol Ikara, "Blush" presents a haunting, neo-noir soundscape. If you're feeling the hazy green-tinted vibe of a Wong Kar-Wai film, it's no coincidence.

“The music also came to me during a bout of writer’s block, which was broken by one of my old tried and true methods – watching a visually stunning movie on mute and composing music inspired by the imagery,” King says. “In the case of ‘Blush,’ the inspiration was Fallen Angels, which has always made me feel like I’m permanently suspended in the most beautiful fever dream.”

His most recent single, “Sleepwalking,” featuring Chelsey Boy, draws sounds from the Chungking Mansions. Leaving you at the doorstep of Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui neighborhood, “Sleepwalking” reeks of ci******es from the past.

“A melting pot of travelers from all corners of the world looking for cheap lodging, immigrant-run restaurants and storefronts, and various petty criminals, it’s a building that feels more like a living entity than any other building I’ve ever set foot in,” King recalls. Although it has largely been cleaned up over the past decade, the spirit of Chungking Mansions remains the same - it truly is a world within a building.”

Kai Tak's debut LP is set to drop in June 2024 via à La Carte Records with a tour to follow.

Submission portal in .magazine bio.

As we reflect on the graduating class of 2024, we are struck by the unprecedented challenges they have faced. It has been four years since a pandemic affected many graduations, turning what should have been a time of celebration into one of uncertainty. While the world has attempted to return "back to normal," its effects remain—a constant reminder that nothing is forever and that anything can change.

In the wake of these disruptions, TARO Magazine presents "Sheltered Summer," an art exhibit reflecting on the transient nature of youth. In a world where time seems both infinite and fleeting, this exhibit serves as a poignant reminder of the impermanence of it all. Are the best days already behind you? Or are they yet to come? Blink, and you might miss it.
