Some Elements of the STAR WARS Special Edition films are very unpopular. Of the many changes that George Lucas made to the Original Trilogy, the changes he made to Emperors scene in The Empire Strikes Back are not one of them.

In this clip from the original theatrical cut of Return of the Jedi, the scary thing about the Sarlacc Pit isn’t that it’s a monster that will grab you and eat you - it’s the dread of what might be below all of those teeth. It’s something that the extra tentacles and the eyeless beak digital effects of the Special Edition steal from this particular sequence. The original practical effects weren’t just effective, they were also perfect - in their own way.

This particular Kenner Return of the Jedi Collection TV commercial was memorable if for no other reason than it gave kids a couple different ideas of how to use household items for action figure play.

In 1999 the Nintendo 64 version of this commercial relied heavily on film clips to sell the game. Gameboy color chose a completely different approach resulting in this delightful ad that exudes the feeling of having a pod racer in your hands!

As Star Wars Galactic Racer has exploded onto the scene, we are reminded of the classic that started the idea of a Star Wars racing game. From 1999, it’s Star Wars: Episode I Racer for Nintendo 64.

The Star Wars media juggernaut as we know it was greatly aided by the convergence of an emerging video game industry and the early 90’s home video boom. So the idea of STAR WARS invading your home was particularly interesting in this 1991 Nintendo ad.

Another fine example of Kenner’s action figure mail away offers, was the one featuring the Emperor! Like the Admiral Ackbar figure before him, the Emperor became a carded figure in 1984.

One of the defining characteristics of Kenner’s Star Wars run was the action figure mail away offer. This 1982 Kenner TV commercial featured the Admiral Ackbar mail-away offer. The figure was to be a part of the upcoming “Revenge of the Jedi” collection. Obviously that title would later change.
