✨ Happy 70th Disneyland ✨
On July 17th, 1955, Disneyland opened it’s for the very first time to invited guests. (Though that was thrown around quite loosely.)
Because over an estimated 28,000 people showed up. People were paying a local farmer to use his ladder to climb over the fencing into the park, and invited guest showed up with a bus full of friends because there was no set amount of guests that you could bring on the ticket.
because of the overwhelming demand things were breaking left and right, and they were just not prepared for people sneaking into the park, causing the massive amount of people all at once. and on top of that, they were on such a time crunch to get Disneyland done that there was still wet paint and freshly poured asphalt to where it was so hot that women’s heels were sticking in the asphalt.
Making the opening of Disneyland be remembered as “Black Sunday”.
Even though the media slammed Walt and Disneyland after its opening day fiasco. The park ended up welcoming its a millionth visitor just a few months after opening day.
Disneyland is truly my favorite park! I love how charming it is, the nostalgia, and just overall the magical feeling that you get walking through the gates that have been there for the past seventy years. ✨
