Love it or hate it, you’re going to FEEL something. And boy, were they right.🪏🎬

This one wasn’t an early screener! We actually paid for our own tickets to see Digger The Movie because we were genuinely curious. Between the disappointing box office numbers, negative critic reviews, surprisingly positive audience scores, and buzz from people whose opinions I trust, I needed to know what was going on with this movie.

And now? I get it. ALL of it.

First, I understand the lack of awareness surrounding this film. This is a movie you absolutely want to go into knowing as little as possible. The less you know, the better. But how do you market a movie you can’t really talk about without ruining the experience? How do you convince people to see something when you can’t explain WHY they should see it?

So here’s what I CAN tell you.

Tom Cruise delivers what might be the most masterful performance of his career. The Parliament scene alone is Oscar-worthy. Absolutely phenomenal.

The cinematography is GORGEOUS. The sets are stunning, layered with so much detail, and the entire production feels meticulously crafted. The supporting cast is brilliant, too, particularly John Goodman and Riz Ahmed.

But here’s where things get complicated.

This movie is uncomfortable, unsettling, and leaves you a little creeped out, a little depressed, and with a LOT to think about. It’s the kind of film that lingers in your head for days, maybe even weeks. And with all that nuance, it’s hard to simply say you loved it.

But isn’t that what great filmmaking can do? Make you FEEL something? Make you THINK?

I understand the divided reactions now, but I also think this is a movie you NEED to experience for yourself.

Go in blind. Form your own opinion. And then come back because I need to know what you thought. 👀🍿

🎬 TCL Chinese Theatre: Check out the famous handprints and footprints of Hollywood legends.

🏰 El Capitan Theatre: A must for Disney fans! Catch a Disney movie at this historic Hollywood theater.

Team Manuscript or Team Letter? 👀📖 Thank you to our friends at Amazon MGM Studios and Frost Communications for the chance to screen Verity early and for allowing me to host such a special movie night! 🖤

This one was extra special because VERITY is based on the bestselling Colleen Hoover book, and as someone who read it a few years ago, I was HOOKED. I loved it so much I bought the deluxe edition, so needless to say, I had thoughts going into this adaptation.

First, the casting. I already knew Anne Hathaway would be the perfect Verity, and Josh Hartnett and Dakota Johnson felt spot-on, too. And I was RIGHT. Anne was so multifaceted in this role, and dare I say this might be her best performance of the year? And there is A LOT to choose from there. 👏

As for the adaptation, I was really happy with how closely the film stayed to the book. I think book purists will be pleased! Everything just worked. The screenplay was fantastic, the direction was well done, and even knowing the story, I was completely pulled in.

But I was REALLY curious what people who hadn’t read the book would think, so I asked some of my guests!

josie_bagley said, “Loved it! Kept me guessing and I really liked the dynamic between the husband and Lowen.”

R E B E C C A L O P E Z said, “I liked that it kept you on your toes through the movie and it made you wonder what YOUR thoughts were and who killed who and who was telling the right story.”

RIGHT?! The best thrillers keep you guessing, questioning everyone, and debating what you believe long after the credits roll.

So I GUESS you’ll just have to head to the movies, see this one for yourself, and then tell me: Team Manuscript or Team Letter?

What a tremendous responsibility it is to raise sons in this day and age.

If the Cornell7 story has taught us anything, it’s that it’s more important than ever to raise sons who are empathetic and kind. Who respect others. Who understand that another person’s dignity, safety and humanity matter just as much as their own wants and needs.

As a mother, the greatest compliment anyone can give me about my sons is that they are kind. More than their accomplishments, their talents or anything else, I want them to grow into good men who care about the people around them.

We have a responsibility to teach our boys to do better. To expect better from one another. To be better.

On National Sons Day, I’m incredibly proud of the three boys I get to raise, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.
