did you know Blackmagic teased this new switcher? The Solaris i64: 64 inputs——immersive camera inputs——mind you, and it's basically their one-stop-shop solution for how to intercut between all of those live Apple Vision Pro cameras.

The thing that was the most striking to me is that it looked like you could easily make this a 128-input (or more) traditional 4K switcher (non-immersive)… I'd be interested to see if they bother to come up with that firmware update when this ATEM is actually released. In any case, it was cool to see something and learn about something for the first time at NAB, and especially something that’s solving a specific problem for the first time.

It feels like it’s been years since I’ve genuinely been surprised and seen something unique on the NAB show floor.

I just wish it was more like my experience seeing the MOVI M10 for the first time….

I put up another article on SMPTE 2110 basics! This article goes over multicasting basics and details how IP Networking and Broadcast systems converge.

Over the coming days, I’ll write and release Tier 3, 4, and 5, which should cover the bare minimum knowledge needed to get started in SMPTE 2110 workflows!
