Class is back in session 🎓 and this week we’re flipping the script 🔄
Last class I told you what I don’t do. Today? The stuff I DO — because the syllabus isn’t complete if you only know half the rules 📚🥤🍿
Today’s lesson: 5 things I ALWAYS do as a veteran dance mom. Save this, print it, whatever you need to do to remember it.
1. I ALWAYS know the schedule better than I know my own. Practice times, competition blocks, costume deadlines — damn near memorized. Whether I’m on time is besides the point 😅 My own dentist appointment? No idea. But ask me what time my kid’s number is Saturday and I’ll tell you down to the minute.
2. I ALWAYS read every email, packet, and group chat message — fully. Before I ask a question, I check if the answer’s already been given. Twice. If not, I’m phoning a friend 📲
3. I ALWAYS swallow the cost💸 Not because I love giving away money, but because I knew this s**t was expensive before we committed. We share hotel rooms, make sacrifices, and do the long haul drives over flights to make it work.
4. I ALWAYS compliment someone else’s kid. Out loud. Genuinely. Dance moms remember who lifts other kids up and who only talks about their own (or is talking s**t in the dressing room). It’s ruthless enough as it is and kindness goes real far in a sport where there is so much comparison, judgement and (let’s be so for real) favoritism. This is also how we build community and how teach our kids that kindness will ALWAYS win 🏆
5. I ALWAYS let my kids have a bad day without making it MY bad day.
They mess up a combo, forgett choreo, cry in the car…that’s their issue to work through. My job is to stay calm, not spiral 🌀 with them.
Which rules are you already nailing, and which one’s are a work in progress? Let’s talk about it 👀👇🏾 This is a safe space ✨
