Déjà Vu: A Electrical Glitch in the Brain, or a Memory from a Parallel Universe?

Have you ever suddenly felt a strange sensation while visiting a new place or chatting with a group of friends? In that moment, something happening right now—a word someone says, or a scene in the surroundings—can feel *exactly* like it has happened before in the same way.

Although this experience lasts only a few seconds, it brings a strong mix of curiosity and fear to our minds. This mysterious feeling, experienced by many people around the world, is known as **Déjà Vu**. The term comes from French and means **“already seen.”** This topic, which oscillates between science and mystery, has given rise to many different theories.

According to **conventional science**, déjà vu is simply a small functional error in our brain. What we see through our eyes takes a very tiny amount of time to reach the brain and be stored as a memory.

In some situations—due to fatigue or slight delays in the nervous system—the images seen by the eyes reach the brain’s memory-storage area with a tiny delay. As a result, the brain mistakenly interprets what we are seeing in the present as a memory from the past. Simply put, it is similar to a **glitch** in a computer or smartphone.

However, several fascinating alternative ideas have been proposed by physicists and philosophers that challenge this scientific explanation.

One of the **most popular and intriguing theories** is the idea of **parallel universes**. Renowned physicist **Dr. Michio Kaku** explains this beautifully using the example of a radio. According to him, the universe we live in is like a giant radio. Imagine that our world is tuned to one specific radio frequency. Around us, however, hundreds of other channels are also operating.

We go on safaris to observe animals in the wild. We have advanced technology and even guns, but we don’t interfere with their world. We simply watch them from a distance.
