💫 She had exactly two minutes.
The moment a blue whale calf is born, the clock starts. The newborn must reach the surface and take its first breath within two minutes — or it will not survive.
The mother knows this.
She pushes the calf upward the moment it is born — guiding it through the water column, nudging it toward the light above.
And then — the surface breaks.
A blowhole opens for the very first time. A small misty spout shoots into the air — tiny compared to its mother's, but the most important breath this animal will ever take.
The first one.
Every blue whale alive in the Indian Ocean today took this breath. In water just like this. With a mother right beside them.
💙 The Indian Ocean near Sri Lanka is one of the only places on Earth where blue whales give birth in accessible waters.
This is happening here. In our ocean.
