Three medium icebreakers are expected to arrive in Alaska for use starting in 2028 with the goal of homeporting two in Kodiak and a third in Seward “when the infrastructure is ready,” the Coast Guard said Thursday.

The three icebreakers are expected to be delivered starting in 2028, but it’s unknown exactly when the necessary housing and on-shore infrastructure will be completed to host the vessels permanently.

A bill that would give the Alaska LNG megaproject a major tax break to support its construction is being moved to the House floor for consideration. The legislation still has a long way to go.

If the bill — which has support from project developer Glenfarne and Gov. Dunleavy — passes the House, it would then head to the Senate, where lawmakers have generally been more resistant to a steep tax cut for Alaska LNG.

Dan J. Sullivan from Petersburg, the challenger to the U.S. senator of the same name, told Alaska’s lieutenant governor that the state cannot legally keep him off the ballot.

The state has no “credible” reason to question his candidacy, Dan J. Sullivan of Petersburg said in response to Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom’s investigation into allegations that he’s deceiving voters.

A patchwork of lingering mining claims and private landholdings has been cleared away and land stretching 14 miles along the salmon-rich Nome River is now in the hands of the Sitnasuak Native Corp., which has pledged to protect it. Via Alaska Beacon
