West of Denali lie vast stretches of land unconnected by road to the rest of the continent, where the pink glow from sunrise behind the largest mountain in North America lasts for hours through the cold months of the year. People living in remote Alaska continue to rely largely on subsistence food and traditional living skills to survive. These diverse, primarily Alaska Native, communities struggl

I’m looking forward to reading this!!!

‘Tasting Light’ is out on October 11th! My short story ‘the weight of a name’ is about an Inupiaq girl who has an opportunity to make an advancement for her People, set 300 years into the future. This book is a collection of teen to young adult short stories that encourage young people to get into the sciences. It’s is an AMAZING collection! If you or anyone you know are into science fiction this is definitely the book for you! This story is near and dear to my heart because as a young indigenous nerd type who didn’t play basketball and loved to read, I was always searching for characters I could connect to in the books that I loved. Thank you for all of your support! You can preorder now wherever books are sold. ❤️

Haunted by Alaska….Panel tonight put together by 49 Writers and Porphyry Press, featured Tom Kizzia and Seth Kantner. Don Rearden introduced them both. Such Alaskan fare.

Kizzia read from Cold Mountain Path and it haunted me enough I’ll add the book to my to-be-read pile. His early work, Wake of the Unseen Object, also recently republished and worth a read. It helped lure me to AK over 20 years ago.

Seth’s candor as he openly struggles with what it means to be human watching climate change and culture change rapidly and dealing with editors and publishers who want to edit out the important stuff—I hope he keeps putting the important stuff on pages. For those living in two worlds in AK, his writing digs deep to those uncomfortable places we didn’t know how to put words to, but which we know are essential to understand. Known well for Ordinary Wolves, his most recent book is
A Thousand Trails Home: Living with Caribou.

I know Judy Eskridge Ferguson has been working on this a long time—glad to see it’s greeting the world!

Looking forward to reading this!!!

I can now share with you all this beautiful book cover! The emotions that I feel when I see an Inupiaq name on a science fiction collection is hard to describe. All I know is that teenage me would be soooooo happy. I am excited for you all to read this short story I wrote! Will be available in October 2022 wherever books are sold.
