“I was born and raised right here in Alaska. After high school I wanted to see something different, so I packed up and moved to Las Vegas for college. I earned my degree in psychology. After a few years, I realized how much I missed home. The people, the pace, and the sense of community that you only find in Alaska. When I came back, my boyfriend at the time (now my husband) suggested I apply at GCI. It was supposed to be a short-term thing. That was nearly 15 years ago. What started as “just a job” turned into a lifelong career.
Now I lead our corporate training team, the folks behind all things products, systems, and employee learning. My team trains new hires at our contact centers and retail locations, supports other departments, and helps design everything from compliance to customer experience training. My background in psychology fits right in because so much of this work is about people, how they learn, what motivates them, and how to help them succeed.
What’s most rewarding to me is watching others grow. I’ve been lucky to have leaders who believed in me, one manager has mentored me for nearly a decade. She’s the reason I’ve grown into a leader, and I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and support. I try to pay that forward with my own team. I’m also proud of the work we’re doing to revamp our new hire training program. It’s a big project that requires all hands on deck, we’re shifting from a traditional, lecture-style format to a blended learning experience that combines self-paced, interactive modules with hands-on workshops. This new approach is designed to be more engaging, flexible, and better aligned with the day-to-day realities our agents face. It’s exciting to see our impact ripple across the company.
GCI is a company that truly values family, flexibility, and balance. In the past few years, I’ve become a mom to two kids. Being able to work remotely has been a game-changer. I get to lead a team I love and still be there for all the big family moments, I get the best of both worlds. GCI has given me a career, a community, and the ability to grow alongside my family.”
