My 219th 5K of the year. Running a 5K a day in 2025.
I ran 2 miles this morning and then I just decided to do another 5K this afternoon at lunch loop. So 5 miles today in 97 degree heat. Blessed to be mentally and physically strong at age 60 I work today at Barnes & Noble. Blessed to have a job I love ... sobriety gives me the opportunity to challenge myself in lots of ways and a lot of that is just being able to get a lot of stuff done in a 24 hour. Period - time I used to waste sitting and drinking and feeling sorry for myself. These days there's just not enough time ⏰ in the day to get everything done. I want to get done. How about that for irony ? ❤️👍🎉🙏🛝

August 5, 2025. This is something we really need to think about as I was biking up on Black Ridge. All the towers for our communications are in one spot and if you're not as worried as I am about giant nuclear radioactive lizards and rabbits from Rifle coming and destroying our communications. You need to think again! and the zombie apocalypse are we prepared? Do you have enough mac & cheese to last a year underground? I doubt it! 😱😱😱😱😱😱

Good Tuesday Morning. 🌞
Coffee & Doggie ... the distant sounds of the world 🌎 waking up.
My wife Jodi is pretty amazing ... from tackling her cancer to buying this house with a pool! ( we are not rich!) the house was great and we got a crazy good interest rate! The pool was the x-factor. Seemed nice at first ... but maintenance and cost! Omg. lol. But we made a concerted effort to keep it ... ( we were going to fill it in!) there were lots of times between Mother Nature ... a negligent neighbor and just weighing the cost. 😱
But together ... we made it work.
And it's been a blessing ... along with my sobriety - bringing the family together. Nieces, nephews and grandchildren love ❤️ seeing us ... the pool is a nice little nugget ! lol But it's been a great excuse to see family and then to see me sober and successful. It took sooo long to get here.
So ... NEVER EVER give up!
5 years ago I had nothing ... had lost most all of it.
I got back up 🥊... and shut up and did the work.
Now I'm an award winning journalist ... a better human being... I'm ( at 60) the on-field host for the GJ Jackalopes baseball team. Have a great part-time job at Barnes & Noble ( I love working there!) and I'm searching for one more outlet for another round of the Allgood News.
I have choices and possibilities today.
Thanks to an amazing wife who didn't give up on me - and great friends like Bruce Batchelor and Greg Ottaway who reached out when I was so low.
And some amazing guy in Alaska...
name Eric Sowl ! Eric Sowl who taught me not to overreact and what a true friend is!
So many more.
I didn't get here alone ... but I did the work ... action is my calling card these days.
I'm about to run another 5k Today it will be my 218th 5k of the year.
Goals, action and gratitude. The most powerful combination.
It's amazing how the world rewards you for just being better and good. ❤️🙏🎉

Like tears in the rain all my memories of this wonderful life I've had and I'm living ...will eventually be lost ... and that saddens me as I have my coffee ☕️ this morning.

Part 2 Spider builds web... so quick! August 2, 2025 I went out to water the plants and came back and this guy was building his web so fast in my door frame just watch him go fascinating! And then I'll post part two where he actually finishes really quick and then he is ninja quick as he snatches a bug out of the web!

This is a picture of a happy and sober older Dave Allgood today August 2, 2025!
Working a part-time job I love at Barnes & Noble. Smile, wrinkles and receding hairline! All of it! Lol.

I like this goofy guy today. He does what he says he's gonna do and tries to be better every day. He's self-aware. ❤️🎉🙏
January 1st 2025 - I committed to running a 5k a day. And the streak continues...

Before work today I ran my
215th 5k of the year.
That's... 666.5 Miles or 25 Marathons ... so far this year.

Make no mistake - this little goal is strictly for me - it gives me hope, a mission, a challenge and now it's become second nature to start my day with a 3.1 mile run a day.
It's crazy really. Before I would run a mile or two and that was it maybe 5-7 miles a week.
I'm proud of myself and grateful my body and mind has cooperated! At age 60!
- I'm healthier
- I'm confident
- I trust my new instincts today.
- I do things today that serve me
- I can say no to people places and things that are negative and do it with a smile.
- I'm mentally tougher.

And I'm slimmer! lol. I can eat more!
Anyhoo ...🎉
Learning to love myself and find peace in my world has been the greatest gift of my running and sober journey.
It's not " I have to run". It's " I GET to run!" ⚡️❤️👍🙏
What a gift!

🎶 " Had I known you better then"🎶

So good and Daryl's voice is amazing and the harmonies are smooth and resonant offering a hint of 60's folk ... but with an updated jazz and taste of funk ...

"Laughing Boy" is a haunting flashback song punctuated with just a piano and simple orchestral accompaniment and Daryl reminiscing about a time gone by and a life well lived. ( this was 50 years ago! ) So good.
it's such a wonderful flash back. 🎶
