"I was born and raised in Anchorage, and my path to GCI wasn't a straight shot. After graduating from high school and exploring various jobs, I found myself at an aircraft maintenance company. But when Mount Redoubt erupted, I was laid off. Talk about a plot twist! That unexpected event led me to GCI, first as a contractor and then as a full-time employee.

But here's where things get exciting! My ambition and GCI's culture of opportunity really ignited something in me. I decided to go back to school with GCI's educational funding incentives. That was a game-changer. That initial step was just the beginning of my education journey. I earned my bachelor's degree in information technology, and now I’m on the way to receive my MBA in IT Management. The way GCI invests in employee growth through benefits like tuition reimbursement, professional development, and employee assistance programs proves a great commitment to employee development.

My career has been incredibly rewarding, not just for my own accomplishments, but also for the chance to give back to Alaska's communities. “I now manage all of business engineering that support the design and delivery of connectivity for our larger business customers. A couple of those programs being Healthcare & Education; a group I’ve been with for about five years now which has a huge impact for Alaska. We work to ensure clinics and schools across the state have the network access they need to thrive. And that, for me, is what it's all about: bridging that gap and making a real difference.”

Kristina is a Senior Manager for Business Engineering in Technology Planning & Engineering at GCI and celebrated her 15 year work anniversary last September. When she’s not at work, she’s spending time with friends and family, taking MBA courses online, or getting outside to enjoy all of Alaska’s views.

"My journey in Alaska began in the third grade when I moved to Aniak, a small village on the Kuskokwim River. Being immersed in village life and surrounded by Alaska Native communities really shaped my perspective. It instilled a deep connection to rural Alaska, a connection that has become a driving force in my career.
Aniak is more to me than just the place where I grew up. My experiences and the connections I built there have informed my work at GCI, especially when I visit towns in rural Alaska. The love I have for these communities? It comes straight from those days.

I remember the incredible warmth of village life, where a simple connection could open doors. You'd just say, 'Oh, I grew up here,' and instantly, it was, 'Oh, do you know so-and-so?' Suddenly, you're being invited over: 'Come to our house, we’re having king crab!’ It's that immediate sense of community, that willingness to share and connect, that really stuck with me and drives my work now.

My life shifted when my wife and I started a family. And honestly, the desire to grow our family was a major factor in my decision to join GCI. GCI has been phenomenal. They're incredibly understanding. I don’t think I would’ve been able to become a dad at this point in my life had it not been for my team and role at GCI. The flexibility of remote work has allowed me to be present for my growing family, a benefit I deeply appreciate.

Austin is a Communications Specialist and has been with GCI for almost two years. By day, Austin's a key player in closing the digital divide across Alaska. But beyond being a trailblazer in connectivity, he's got a knack for sports (you may recognize him as the former sports reporter for Alaska’s News Source). From golf to basketball to hockey — you name it, he’s watching it! When he’s not at work, you might find him on the golf course or dreaming of a pre-knee-injury basketball comeback. ⛳ 🏀

The best part of our jobs is being able to celebrate fellow Alaskans any chance we get! GCI+ user Thomas from Juneau is proof that great things can happen — like winning 1 MILLION Club 49 miles for simply being a customer!

As the grand prize winner of the 10,000 Miles Per Hour Giveaway, we flew him first class to Anchorage to mark this exciting moment for him, his wife and children.

Thomas shared, "I've been a GCI customer for about 15 years now. I was ecstatic when I heard I won the 1 million miles. In fact, I don't think it's quite sunk in yet." We can't wait to see where you travel to next, Thomas! ✈️

What an incredible season of Broadway in Anchorage! Alaska Center for the Performing Arts and Broadway Alaska brought "Mean Girls" and "Beetlejuice: The Musical" to life on stage, giving us all a taste of Broadway right here at home. 🎭 From the drama of North Shore High to the wild antics of the afterlife, these shows brought Alaskans together for unforgettable moments.

We love seeing the PAC bring world-class performances to our state, creating lasting memories for our community. Our partnership helps power the PAC, supporting their mission to bring Broadway all the way to Alaska.
