The International Packraft Film Festival is headed to Maine!

IPFF will be showing at the first APA Packraft RoundUp Maine, happening September 4–7 at Chewonki’s Big Eddy Campground in Millinocket, Maine, along the West Branch of the Penobscot River.

The American Packrafting Association and Packraft Maine are bringing the community together over Labor Day weekend for paddling, camping, and a showing of packrafting films from around the world.

Registration is limited to 40 people, so grab your spot through the APA. We’ll see you by the river and at the showing!

Tim Johnson’s film “Strapped In” is part of the 2026 International Packraft Film Festival.

The film looks back at the early days of packrafting in Alaska, when boats were being borrowed, modified, strapped together, and figured out by people who were simply trying to move through wild country in a new way.

Tim shares the story of rigging up Roman Dial’s son’s boat back in the day, and gives us a glimpse into the scrappy, experimental roots of the sport.

We’re stoked to have the American Packrafting Association supporting the 2026 International Packraft Film Festival!

APA does a ton of important work for the packrafting community through education, safety, stewardship, and helping more people connect with this sport in a thoughtful way.

Meet the Team: Emily Baker

Emily is one of the IPFF founders and our Road Show Director, which means she is the person helping this festival move into actual rooms full of paddlers around the world.

She works with hosts, venues, and local organizers to help bring IPFF showings to life — from the Anchorage premiere to every community screening that follows.

This festival has always been about more than just watching films. It is about getting people together, making space for packrafting stories, and helping this weird, wonderful little sport feel a bit more connected. Emily is a huge reason that happens.

Turns out you don’t actually need a 14-hour drive, a bush plane, or a “life-changing expedition” to have a good packrafting mission.

Sometimes the crew text says “river lap after work?” and suddenly you’re having the best day of the month.

“Down the Street” follows the Salt Lake crew getting after it close to home — proving local laps still absolutely count.

“Off Season, Still In” by Sam Hooper is officially headed to the International Packraft Film Festival. Sam was the winner of the 2025 audience choice award, so you know it's going to be a good one 🙌

Not every adventure happens in perfect conditions. Sometimes the forecast is bad, the daylight is short, and everyone else has packed it in for the season…

…which is exactly why you go.

“Off Season, Still In” is a reminder that the best missions are often the ones that happen anyway. Quiet rivers, cold mornings, empty trails, and that feeling of being out there when nobody else is.
