While most of the state will see a showery and cooler weather pattern this week, warmth will grip areas of Southeast. This comes as a ridge in the Pacific Ocean remains with us.

However, the ridge is set to flatten, meaning even some showers are to be expected for parts of Southeast later this week.

Abnormally dry conditions have expanded across the state, with Southcentral and the Slope seeing drier conditions as well. This is a precursor to a drought, which simply means there is some lingering water deficits. If this trend continues, we could see small pockets of the moderate drought expand across parts of the state.

Active weather remains out west, due to a fairly stationary area of low pressure. Meanwhile, across Southcentral we'll see at least one more day of some passing showers (may extend into Saturday morning), before our ridge to the south shifts north.

If you're a fan of summertime warmth, we'll see the potential for highs to warm into the 70s through most of next week.

Some good news this morning:

As of yesterday morning, the state's preparedness level has dropped to level 3 due to moderating weather conditions across the state.

The burn permit suspensions across Kenai, Kodiak and the Mat-Su areas has been lifted. All open burning and other burning covered under large and small burn permits is now authorized.

With that said, very high fire danger still remains for Valdez-Copper River fire area, while the rest of Southcentral is under a moderate fire danger.

The unsettled weather remains out west, with a low moving into the Alaska Peninsula. While this will keep most of the rain over Bristol Bay, Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak, Southcentral will also see a chance for some showers into the afternoon and evening hours.
