Lengthy Investigation Into Local Spa Results In Arrests

A joint-law enforcement agency investigation of a local spa business resulted in arrests on Friday, according to an Andrews Police Department press release.
The police department, in partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Division, concluded the lengthy investigation into alleged illicit activities at the Red Rose Spa, located at 203 S. Main St.
Authorities said the investigation was initiated after the Andrews Police Department received information from community members expressing concern about possible illegal conduct at the location.
Over the course of several months, investigators from both agencies conducted surveillance, gathered evidence, and coordinated operations to address the reported activity, according to the press release.
As a result of the investigation, arrests were made, police added. Additional information is not being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure the safety of involved personnel, the press release states.
“This case highlights the importance of community cooperation,” Andrews Police Chief Ronny McCarver said. “When citizens speak up and report suspicious activity, it gives us the opportunity to investigate thoroughly and work with our partners to take appropriate action. The safety and well-being of our community is always our top priority.”
The Andrews police Department remains “committed to working alongside local, state, and federal partners to identify, investigate and address criminal activity that impacts our city,” according to the press release.
The investigation remains active.

Andrews Man Killed In Crash In Ector County, Seminole Motorcyclist Dies In Crash In Andrews County

A two-vehicle crash Friday night in Ector County claimed the life of an Andrews man and injured three others, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety report.
Johnny Saenz, 33, was killed in the 7:15 p.m. accident on U.S. Highway 385. The wreck involved a 2015 Peterbilt driven by 22-year-old Carlos Ramos of Amarillo and a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup being driven by 40-year-old Jesus Padilla of Andrews.
The crash occurred when the Peterbilt and trailer were traveling north in the outside lane of Highway 385 and the Silverado was southbound in the inside lane of Highway 385.
The Peterbilt’s front left tire blew out, causing Ramos to lose control of the truck trailer, which crossed the center median traveling north in the southbound lanes.
Ramos attempted to cross back over through a cable barrier to avoid oncoming traffic when the Peterbilt struck the Silverado.
Saenz was transported to Medical Center Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Padilla sustained minor injuries, and was transported to Medical Center Hospital. Another passenger, 40-year-old Sergio Mingura of Andrews, also sustained minor injuries and was treated at Medical Center Hospital.
Ramos also sustained minor injuries.
A separate crash on Thursday morning in Andrews County involving a motorcycle and a truck with a trailer claimed the life of a 20-year-old Seminole resident.
Ricky Scott Riojas was pronounced dead at Midland Memorial Hospital following the 5:40 a.m. accident.
The wreck occurred when the 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide ridden by Riojas was traveling south on FM 1788 and the unknown truck with a trailer was northbound on FM 1788.
The driver of the unknown truck attempted to turn left onto SE County Road 8000 and failed to yield right of way to the motorcycle, according to the DPS report.
The Harley Davidson then collided with the trailer and the truck continued driving.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the DPS at 432-496-2131 or the sheriff’s office at 523-5545.
