Salvador Flores' brand new record "Mosaic" has finally dropped, and I'm really excited to share this release with everyone for him. It's not your average classical sax record....its a panorama of his exquisite abilities across the spectrum from heavy contemporary classical rep to Gershwin to jazz that is pretty uncommon at this level. Its out on all formats, including double-vinyl with some gorgeous images in the package. I recorded half of it, then did all post. Check it out here:

We recently completed all recording and filming of the North-Central CBDNA conference held at Hill Auditorium, and one of the highlights was to get to apply our full production (as we always do for UMSB) for the MSU Wind Symphony under the direction of Kevin Sedatole.

Michigan and Michigan State might have their rivalries, but this is a strong brotherhood. I performed under Kevin in his last show as the associate director of bands at U of M when I was in grad school, and he brought the group to Hill in top form. On top of that, my dear friend and colleague David Biedenbender wrote this fantastic work for them to showcase.

Enjoy the premiere of David's "Time Flies" here:

Fresh from last weekend's concert in Dearborn, the National Arab Orchestra premieres a brand new composition by Michael Ibrahim, "Echoes Under Fire." This is an intense and emotional reflection on the current strife in the Middle East that he experienced first-hand.

The orchestra has an expanded string section, winds, brass, harp, and fixed media to represent the ominous background sounds of the environment.
This was a 60 channel multitrack capture from my FOH Digico 338 Quantum Pulse to Reaper, 8 Panasonic cams in 4K filmed by Cory Robinson and Robyn Kimmey, with extremely thoughtful lighting design by Salim Laham.

Today is the release day for a very compelling album I just completed for William Shaub and Katherine Benson, which we recorded just recently in January! This is raw, pure performance....it's one of the most honest session runs I have ever encountered. The bare minimum of editing was asked for; these are largely full takes! These two handled the Schumanns very thoughtfully and accurately, and I was stunned to be able to just sit and enjoy the ride as they fed the tape.

Take a moment to check this out on Will's site and through Katherine's U Penn press release.

Last week with University of Michigan Symphony Band, we had the privilege of filming Ellen Rowe guesting with the ensemble, taking the group outside of it's idiom and leaning into the jazz realm.

Ellen has been a dear friend and colleague since I arrived at U of M in 1996, and I congratulate her wholeheartedly on her upcoming retirement. The school will not be the same without her around, but I can rest assured that she still has a lot up her sleeve....she's one of those remarkable folks who you wonder "how do they do it all!" Class, energy, and wisdom. She's guided many of the greats out there over her career, and I've learned a lot from being around her. Bravo, Ellen!!!

Watch the UMSB YouTube channel for the upcoming videos of the show.

It's important to be on top of all of the jobs. It's also important to show up on time. This winter, ive put our trusty snowblower through it's paces a lot to keep us mobile, and obviously things break (luckily after the last significant snow!) Took a few mins off my editing bench to try and fix it.....we know we'll get another snow. So now, among all the other jobs, I guess I can add "small motor machine repairman." 🌠

THS Audio has some slick new offerings for this year! Dave invited me to kick off the gear spotlights with the new Digico Quantum 225 that arrived last month. I regularly use the Q338 with the National Arab Orchestra, and this desk will be added to that roster. Small enough to fit the compact jobs, powerful enough to give those jobs the virtually limitless capability of this series of desk!

2025 was a wild ride....we never really know what may be in store, but this past year came with some amazing opportunities for collaboration and expanding the palette! I got to work with a handful of musical heroes, tracked a ton of fantastic content with our favorites in the client roster and added some fresh new folks to that list, shook hands with two of my initial musical inspirations, and tracked a myriad of top notch new works. Special thanks to all of my best buds at THS Audio, who saw a banner year and added my new favorite tool to their arsenal, the Quantum 338 console that is elevating my work with the NAO bit by bit.

As I sit here and work on an upcoming album release and a stack of more NAO video content, I can only be grateful to be doing what I love here in the snowy tundra of Michigan every day and to have such amazing colleagues to keep me energized, most notably the amazing Robyn Kimmey who has my back on every project, every day, and in our lives in general . We never work, we just do what we do!
