SWIPE!!

This is the tenth (10th) installment of the Early Bird Radio audio series, "Pass Tha Aux." Episode  #10 features rising DJ & curator, Cobrastrk (), doing her thing on the decks & bringing us a bunch of old school & new school vibes.

The Baltimore, Maryland resident came correct with some originals by Lawerence Guy, Tokimonsta & Pawsa along with remixes of songs by PinkPanthress, Kendrick Lamar, Empire of the Sun & more. This eclectic mix of house music is a great example of Cobrastrk's ability to blend songs of both old & new creating her own unique vision of the historical genre.

This is the tracklist for the 27th Early Bird Radio episode. && for this week’s show we did a SoundFile on New Zealand & Australian based multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter & producer, Jordan Rakei.
⁣
A staple in the Early Bird rotation since his album “Groove Curse” was released in 2014, this gentleman of music has been taking care of business since 2013. The 28 year-old savant took up music when he was a youngin’ & after picking up multiple instruments along the way he began digging through ye old parents music collection & discovered some gems. All of these necessary ingredients provided what was needed in order to start getting his thoughts through a beat machine.⁣

After releasing “Groove Curse,” though, it was time for a challenge, meaning it was time to live somewhere NOT in the Indian Ocean. Rakei picked up & headed to London, England around 2014-2015. Moving to another country certainly presented new challenges, but he was ready to immerse himself into the culture ASAP &, in the process, link up with some equally talented creatives. Partnering with the likes of , & ; the latter got him nominated for a Grammy after being in London for only ONE WEEK!! ⁣

With the release of his debut album “Cloak” (2016) & the announcement of his dance music alias “Dan Kye (),” Rakei had evolved as an artist once again. This propelled him to sign with influential record label . Since signing the record deal, he has released “Wallflower” (2017) & “Origin” (2019) & worked with artists such as , , , , , & more.⁣

This mix captures the vibes & musical colors of the many places Jordan Rakei has called home. Peers, friends & influences from New Zealand, Australia, England & the rest of the world find a place on this mix. Artists like , , , , , , , , , & more. We feel as though we properly encapsulated the soulful, jazz, hip-hop & occasional electronic sounds that his sound is known for.⁣

We mentioned a couple posts ago that a few months back & the extended & invitation to let us spin some records on his dope show. This marked Early Bird’s FIRST guest mix we’ve done for someone else &, appropriately, we wanted to make sure we continue to give the proper love on social media to our homie from across the pond. OH & of course we had to share the track list too. ⠀

DJ Flex & Early Bird teamed up & dropped guest mix’s on each of our online radio shows, respectively, a few months ago. ⠀
⠀
We just wanted to start by saying our guy, Flex, showed up & showed out for his ‘Pass Tha Aux’ episode. Dropping heater after heater (peep the tracklist) & letting everyone know exactly what his show is all about. Every week you can catch incredible artists share the platform Flex has carefully cultivated for them. Thanks for sharing your United States debut with us!!⠀

On the flip side, the cool part of Early Bird dropping a guest mix on the Infinite Beat Show was that it marked our very FIRST mix for someone else. Getting the chance to play songs & curate a vibe is always fun, but it’s an added dynamic when given the chance to spread the sounds of artists we’re in love with on someone else’s international platform. This is the tracklist for the 26th Early Bird Radio episode (gah damn). && for this week’s show we did a SoundFile on New York City powerhouse duo, . ⠀

BUT before we dive into the details of the episode we wanted to say that although this show illustrates the sounds of Brasstracks, it’s also rooted in happiness, positivity & love. During times like these it’s important to remember what can help shine light on the dark times. ⠀

With that being said, the two artists that make up Brasstracks are Ivan Jackson (trumpet) & Conor Rayne (drums). They first met at the Manhattan School of Music & afterwards embarked on a musical journey that has already placed them in studio sessions with some of the biggest names in the music industry. Working alongside the likes of , ._paak, , , , , , & many, many more. ⠀

The sound they have come to harness is a fusion of hiphop, jazz, R&B, funk & electronic all culminating in what they have coined as “Future Brass.” The sounds within this episode reflect the duo’s eclectic ear & includes numerous artists they are either frequently collaborating with or are featuring in their work; artists such as , , , , , , & more. ⠀

We were blessed to have the homie drop an incredible guest mix for our 8th episode of the “Pass Tha Aux” audio series. The Long Island native supplied the people with 25 ORIGINAL songs including 6 UNRELEASED joints. So dope.⠀

Of course, in wake of the tragic murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor & Ahmaud Arbery, we were hesitant to release anything or do any promo. However, after having a conversation with Jay about where his head was at with everything he was adamant with us about releasing this mix. As a creator, this was an opportunity for him to use his music in its truest form; an escape, an outlet. ⠀

He gives a personal touch to a few of the classics but, personally, we loved hearing the beats he formulated from scratch. ⠀

Bottom line, if you aren’t familiar, get familiar. This man has some serious talent, surrounds himself with equally as talented & creative people & is simply building up a bunch of momentum that cannot be ignored. Since popping on the scene in the early 00’s with his instrumental project “Klouds,” Knxwledge has refused to let up. Releasing music at a rate only seen by artists such as Madlib, Dilla & Curren$y. Listen, just to give you an idea, I’m talking over 100 individual projects being available on . From 2010 until present day, Knxwledge has been on an ascent not often seen by a producer. A partnership with the infamous in 2015 meant that he was able to fully come into his own as an artist. In this case, meaning he was given the flexibility to produce what he wants, when he wants with whomever he chooses. This has led to critically acclaimed beat tapes, critically acclaimed albums, the creation of the duo NxWorries with Anderson .Paak along with a Grammy for his contributions on Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly.”⠀

Knxweldge does a great job blending different genres in his music; jazz, R&B, hip-hop, soul, funk & much more provide the foundation of his sample pool & infinite music catalog.
