The CIAA has announced that its Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament will remain in Baltimore through 2029. This decision follows a successful five-year run in the city, which began hosting the event virtually in 2021 and in person in 2022. CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams Parker praised Baltimore’s commitment to the event and its broader cultural impact. This marks the tournament’s first long-term host city partnership since leaving Charlotte, NC, after more than a decade.

A former U.S. Coast Guard officer from Oakton, Virginia, has been arrested for allegedly making death threats against former President Donald Trump.

Peter Stinson, who served from 1988 to 2021 and reached the rank of Lieutenant, is accused of making the threats between April 2020 and June 2025, according to a 19-page FBI affidavit.

Court documents reveal that Stinson, a qualified sharpshooter, posted violent messages on Bluesky and X, identifying himself as a member of ANTIFA. One 2020 post read, “Would someone just pull the proverbial trigger, please.”

Stinson also posted about firearm use and target practice, and came to the FBI’s attention when someone tagged FBI Director Kash Patel in one of his social media posts.

He is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on Wednesday.

The Washington Mystics () erased a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat the Chicago Sky 79–72 on Tuesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak and improving to 5–7.

Brittney Sykes () led the charge with a career-high 32 points, including clutch plays down the stretch.

The Mystics outscored Chicago 24–12 in the third quarter and capitalized on 22 Sky turnovers, turning them into 40 points.

Sonia Citron added 13 points and 9 rebounds, while Shakira Austin delivered key defensive stops late.

Despite strong efforts from Kamilla Cardoso (18 pts, 10 reb) and Angel Reese (17 pts, 14 reb), the Sky’s sloppy ball handling proved costly.

Washington now heads to Atlanta for a Friday night matchup against the Dream.

After undergoing two surgeries and spending five days in the hospital, Officer Langley Dean has been released and received a standing ovation from the community, family, and fellow officers.

In a heartwarming moment caught on video, Dean’s K-9 partner Basco ran up to greet him as he was wheeled out of the hospital.

Dean stood to hug supporters and thanked everyone, saying, “The staff has been excellent… I appreciate everything.”

Dean was shot in the arm on Thursday around 5 a.m., responding to a domestic abuse call on the 700 block of Forrest Drive in Hagerstown. Daniel Matthew Anderson, the suspect, fired a shotgun through a door, striking Dean before barricading himself inside for over eight hours. He later surrendered.

Dean faces months of recovery and will heal at home with his family and Basco by his side.

Washington, D.C. chef Carlos Delgado (), head of acclaimed restaurants Causa and Amazonia, has won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic—the only winner from the D.C. area in this year’s honors.

Announced Monday during a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the awards celebrate excellence across all levels of dining, from fine to casual, and mark their 35th anniversary in 2025.

Delgado’s restaurants, located in D.C.’s Blagden Alley, highlight the diverse flavors of the Peruvian coast, Andes, and Amazon. Causa earned a Michelin star in 2023, the same year Delgado was named a finalist for Michelin’s Best Young Chef.

Accepting the award from Chef Marcus Samuelsson, a surprised Delgado told the crowd, “This whole thing is an immigrant’s dream, an immigrant’s story,” adding that he learned to cook from his grandmother and never expected to win. He also reflected on the long journey to open his restaurant during the pandemic, calling it a labor of perseverance and belief.

The full list of 2025 James Beard winners is available online.

Nearly a year after the tragic death of NFL draft pick Khyree Jackson, a new scholarship in his honor is being offered to a graduating senior at his alma mater, Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro.

Jackson, along with two friends—all Wise High alumni—was killed in a car crash on July 6, 2024. His parents, Ebbony and Raymond Jackson, created the Khyree Jackson Foundation to continue his legacy.

The foundation is now offering a $1,000 scholarship to a Wise senior planning to attend a junior college or 4-year university. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on July 25.

“Khyree believed in education, and we’re proud to help another student pursue their goals,” said Ebbony Jackson.

This is the foundation’s second scholarship. In March, Brandon Finney Jr., a Maryland native and future University of Oregon student—where Jackson once played—received a scholarship to attend the Black Student Athlete Summit.
