All seven defending state champions are among the 208 teams set to begin the 60th AHSAA State Football Playoffs which begin next week with ### games.
A total of 32 teams in Classes 1A through 6a and 16 in Class 7A open play Nov. 7 at sites of the highest seed.
The seven defending champions include: Class 1A Wadley (9-0); Class 2A Reeltown (7-3); Class 3A Mars Hill Bible (10-0); Class 4A Jackson (8-2); Class 5A Montgomery Catholic (6-4); Class 6A Parker (7-3); and Classs 7A Thompson (7-3).
The first-round pairings were announced at Saturday’s AHSAA Playoff Coaches’ meeting held at Abernathy Hall on the campus of Alabama State University in Montgomery with AHSAA Executive Director Heath Harmon announcing the official pairings. The meeting was live streamed by WOTM TV and can be found on demand at WOTM.tv and the NFHS Network.
In this year’s field are 20 schools still unbeaten at the conclusion of the regular season Friday night. Among them is Southside-Selma (10-0), coached by Charles Moody. The Panthers are led by Moody’s son Kole Moody at quarterback. Kyle has been re-writing the AHSAA passing records this season – including setting a new single-game record for passing yardage in last Thursday’s 76-44 victory over Class 4A Bullock County (7-3) in the final game of the regular season. He was 29-of-35 passing for 584 yards, surpassing the old mark of 575 yards set by Chris Thomas, also of Southside-Selma, in a 44-16 win over Selma in 2021.
Moody also had eight touchdown passes to lead the Panthers to their first 10-0 regular season in school history. He was the 19th prep quarterback to surpass 500 yards in a single game in AHSAA history.
He currently ranks No. 2 in the nation this season with 209 of 262 passes completed for 4,116 yards and 50 touchdowns. He has had five games with over 400 yards with his lowest total of the season coming in the season opener with 305 yards. And get this. He is just an 8th grader.
Southside, competing in Class 3A, is averaging 57.6 points a game this season. The Panthers open the playoffs next week at home versus Dadeville (3-7). The unbeaten teams in this year’s playoffs include:
Class 1A: Appalachian (10-0); Hubbertville (10-0); Leroy (10-0); Maplesville (10-0);
Wadley (9-0).
Class 2A: Luverne (10-0).

Be the first to know and let us send you an email when FNN Network posts news and promotions. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
FNN was conceptually born in 2011 as a part of Jacobs Broadcast Group, Inc., a company generally geared around the ownership and operation of commercial radio stations in East Central Alabama. The idea behind FNN was to create a new, “Non-Traditional” revenue stream around video streaming high school football.
The network streamed it’s first game on September 14th, 2011 from Weaver High School as the Bearcats played host to the White Plains Wildcats in a game they won 20-14. Just 91 people watched on mostly desktop computers at the time.
Since those humble beginnings in 2011, FNN has shed it’s “second son” clothes from the Jacobs Broadcast Group, Inc. radio days and become the “out-front” video sports production arm of Jacobs Media Services, LLC (formed in February, 2013)
FNN routinely live streams high school football, basketball, baseball and girls softball on a regional basis in East Central Alabama. It is not uncommon for FNN to stream in excess of one hundred events annually.
With the increased availability of high speed internet technology and better smart phones, tablets, computers and smart TV technology, FNN’s live streamed events are now viewed by thousands, with thousands more enjoying the FNN game experience “On Demand”. In 2017, FNN added Facebook Live to our delivery platform to gain even more viewers.
With a great team of announcers, producers, camera operators and boots-on-the-ground workers, FNN strives to bring a highly professional look for every local game that gives you, our viewer an experience that comes as close as possible to what you might see when you turn on network television for sports.
