One of my favorite things about Appalachia is seeing small businesses grow and thrive in our communities.

I was in Manchester, Kentucky today for Small Business Saturday at the local farmers market, and it was great to see so many folks out supporting local vendors.

While I was there, I stopped by Pop Top Drink Co. and picked up a C.C. Sunrise. It’s a creamy strawberry and orange refresher served in a can. It was delicious.

What really stood out to me was seeing young entrepreneurs building something of their own right here in Appalachia. I love seeing folks take an idea, work hard, and turn it into a business that serves their community. We need more of that, and it’s always encouraging to see.

This summer, I plan on traveling around Kentucky and Appalachia a little more. What are some small businesses, food trucks, restaurants, shops, bakeries, or other local spots that you think I should stop by and check out? I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Good morning and Happy Sunday from the Appalachian Mountains of Southeastern Kentucky!

For those of you who have been following me for a while, you may already know that my Mom has been battling breast cancer for the last couple of years. We drove her to Hazard this week for her treatment, and it got me thinking about the difficulties we face in life. It can get really tough sometimes.

But through it all, I am amazed watching my Mom's reaction to everything she's been through. Her faith never wavered β€” in fact, I think it only grew stronger. And if dealing with cancer wasn't enough, I lost my Dad in 2024 β€” her husband of over 50 years β€” right in the middle of her battle. Again, I was truly amazed at how she handled it. Her faith in God remained strong, and honestly, just witnessing that boosted my own faith too.

This Bible verse has been a comfort to me in hard times, and I hope it's a comfort to you as well.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV) β€” "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

What a reminder. God's love never ceases. His mercies never run out. They are new β€” each and every morning we wake up. And it's all made possible through Jesus Christ, our greatest reason for hope.
