We’ve reached the 9th Commandment: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” This commandment addresses a wide range of issues related to our use of language. While the 3rd Commandment focuses on the misuse of sacred language, such as taking God's name in vain, the 9th Commandment calls us to be truthful with our words to protect the reputations of others. We hope this will not only encourage you to choose your words wisely but also direct your attention to how this commandment ultimately points us to Jesus as both the Word and the Truth.

“Thou shalt not murder.” Sounds like a straightforward command, right? Jesus made sure we understood the full scope of this command in his Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire” (Matthew 5:21-22). Jesus widened the scope of this command to include not merely how we can physically harm others, but also how we wield the very personal and even hidden emotion of anger.
In this podcast, Pastor Mark focuses on what it means to be made in the image of God, how Jesus fulfilled this command, and why the 6th Command addresses more than just taking the life of another person in a premeditated way like murder. We hope that you will accept the challenge to uphold the sanctity of human life because we are uniquely made in the likeness of our Creator.

Scripture: Exodus 20:13 “Thou shalt not murder.” Sounds like a straightforward command, right? Jesus made sure we understood the full scope of this command in his Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders wil...

Our current series, GRATITUDE: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN CHRIST continues in this podcast as Jeff Smith, our Director of Ministries, brings a message on the Fourth Commandment found in Exodus Chapter Twenty, verses Eight through Eleven. Jeff will explain how the Fourth Commandment is God’s pattern for weekly living based on God’s creation work and rest. Today, We all face self-imposed and cultural pressures to spend all our time working, shopping, entertainment, education, and sports. But the One who created us and knows us best commands us to a weekly Sabbath Day for His glory and the blessing of humanity. We need the Sabbath as much as ever! As we will consider, the Sabbath commandment transforms our time and our trust as Jeff Smith presents our fourth episode in this series, THE SABBATH, KEEP IT HOLY.

We found a lost recording! For our return to production this fall, we have a lost and now-found sermon. We return to our Mobilizing in Moab series for a sermon on Deuteronomy 30. Deuteronomy 30 builds on the previous chapters by drawing to a conclusion Moses’ focus on the covenant. Deuteronomy 28 focuses on the blessings and curses of abiding in or denying covenant responsibilities; 29, is all covenant renewal—God claiming His people, and Israel claiming God as their own. Thirty summarizes these two chapters with a pastoral reminder: “Y’all can do this!” Moses reminds the people that the words of the covenant are not found in far-flung places, “ But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it!" What a great line! You can do this, You can follow Jesus. Why? Because he’s near! We have the Word near us, as we remember from Advent: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14)
