This Podcast marks the conclusion of our sermon series on the 10th Commandment. It’s a catch-all command, a summary, and a massive challenge. "Thou shalt not covet"—much easier said than done! The 10th Commandment addresses a hidden sin, locked within our broken fantasies yet aimed at making those fantasies potential realities.
Coveting begins with wanting what’s not ours and enters into the world of imagination, considering what it would be like if that person or thing were in our possession. The 10th Commandment commands us to stop thoughts like, “I want that thing, or that relationship, or that experience, and I wonder what it would look like if I did …” The flip side of this command is to desire godly wants, to be content with whatever the Lord has entrusted to you, and to invest in a future grounded in the values of Jesus’ Kingdom.

We’ve reached the 9th Commandment: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” This commandment addresses a wide range of issues related to our use of language. While the 3rd Commandment focuses on the misuse of sacred language, such as taking God's name in vain, the 9th Commandment calls us to be truthful with our words to protect the reputations of others. We hope this will not only encourage you to choose your words wisely but also direct your attention to how this commandment ultimately points us to Jesus as both the Word and the Truth.

“Thou shalt not murder.” Sounds like a straightforward command, right? Jesus made sure we understood the full scope of this command in his Sermon on the Mount. Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire” (Matthew 5:21-22). Jesus widened the scope of this command to include not merely how we can physically harm others, but also how we wield the very personal and even hidden emotion of anger.
In this podcast, Pastor Mark focuses on what it means to be made in the image of God, how Jesus fulfilled this command, and why the 6th Command addresses more than just taking the life of another person in a premeditated way like murder. We hope that you will accept the challenge to uphold the sanctity of human life because we are uniquely made in the likeness of our Creator.

Today, we return to our sermon series called GRATITUDE, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS IN CHRIST by focusing on the 3rd Commandment: “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain….” As we explore what a “name” means from an ancient Near East perspective, we will more fully understand the severity of breaking this command. We will also explore what it means to bear God’s name as His representative. The responsibility of bearing God’s name sounds intimidating, but Thanks Be To God, it’s a mark and seal only the Holy Spirit can truly give us. It’s not something we earn, it’s something GIVEN to be lived out in. . .GRATITUDE. We’re calling this third message on the Ten Commandments, “What’s In A Name?”
