New Addition to the Homestead: Alpine Goats! I recently got two Alpine Goats from a local dairy goat farm to add to my home property. These wethers are around 6 months old, and I have had them for almost 2 months.

The plan for these goats is to rotationally graze them on my home and cabin property to thin the underbrush. This will make the space more useable, fire-safe, and aesthetically pleasing.

When they are fully grown in a couple of years, I will also have the potential to use them as pack animals.

Stay tuned for more goat related posts as I share my perspective as a beginning goat owner on my pen setup, rotational grazing setup, and other lessons and failures.

We initially used a premade ridge cap from where we got our roof panels. It ended up not overlapping enough and, frankly, just did not look good. Instead, we folded a piece of metal roof hot-dog style and used it instead. It looks and functions much better.

New blog post! I go over how I framed the roof for the 12' x 12' Cabin. When I set out to frame the roof I considered this the pinnacle of my carpentry experience. For the amateur carpenter like myself, this was no easy task. Despite this, by the time I got to this point in my cabin build, I was ready to tackle this process.
