Friday night we celebrate the third edition of Appleton's literary oddball - THE BASTARD'S REVIEW!

at Wriston Art Galleries

(613 E College Ave, Appleton WI)

This issue is all about TOWNIE culture and features the work of five Wisconsin-based artists: Kasey McCormick & (as well as content from Bastard's founders & and a TOWNIE playlist curated by )

The artists will be hosting craft talks to give a glimpse of what goes in to their work and our community.

Amos here reporting from C.O.M. HQ in beautiful downtown Appleton. In July of 2020 (yeah when the global pandemic was a-ragin') we released an LP called High Country Skyway by an elusive fella named R Boyd with backing him up on all of the songs. Boyd was previously in the amazing groups Jaill, The Midwest Beat, and The Goodnight Loving. The latter two bands rocked jangle style with an unmistakable down home feel. They released many albums on small regional labels and they're all stone cold masterpieces. Track them down!! The former group, Jaill, played a style of angular pop/rock that found its way out of the Midwest via Seattle label .

We tracked High Country Skyway in our own studio; mostly live- learning all the songs together and workin em up into the lather you hear on the wax in marathon sessions. It's a churning country-fried pop album that sounds like it was pounded out in a sweatbox studio by the tracks (WHICH IT WAS!!) Boyd's brand of C&W rock & roll is in many ways informed by his life in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, and this feel gels with the power of Dusk like a tongue on a flagpole in a Boulder Junction January. I'm not entirely sure what that's supposed to mean, but it's FIERCE!!

The album sold quickly upon initial release and has been out-of-print for some time but lucky for you we've unearthed 50 copies and they're hitting the streets via www.crutchofmemory.com (in our bio)!!

Don't miss out this time- they'll only be available via our website and Dusk shows while supply lasts. Then they're gone forever.
