MARS was the recipient of the 1993 “Radio Mercury Awards”, 2014 Telly Award Winner, along with countless other nominations. MARS has also been recognized by many institutions across the US for participation in internship opportunities programs at the studio.

History and Story of Mars Music Art Recording Studio

MARS was established in 1975 and has been consistently working successfully with diversified artists and bands across various genres and styles. It has established a rich history in the local music community. Mars has worked with artists such as Dave Grohl of BL’AST 1987 SST Records; Tiran Porter of the Doobie Brothers as a session musician; Lacy J. Dalton, Allison Krauss with Tony Rice band, Bobby O’Niell and Ken Kraft of the SNAIL band, Larry Hosford, and many others.

History of Building and Facilities

MARS is a professional industry standard studio with a home-like atmosphere. It was built over 42 years ago but has since then been modified to keep up to date with technology. Passion and genuine interest was taken in the design of the studio. Besides the main 900ft studio there are 2 isolated rooms, vocal booth and piano room, acoustic design treated walls in the studio and control room which has a high end monitoring system.

Description of the location and studio

MARS (Music Art Recording Studio) Located in the sunny foothills on the Aptos coastline. Eight miles south of Santa Cruz California on the beautiful Monterey Bay, four miles away from sandy beaches, conveniently right off highway one. Easily accessible routes to variety of 4 star overnight accommodations and eateries, to facilitate a quick commute back for a second days work (in case you are from out of town).

MARS is situated on a hilltop with a two mile valley view outlook surrounded by rolling hills and oak and pine forest.

What to expect

MARS is an industry standard recording studio with both vintage and modern technology. You can expect to find a comfortable and peaceful environment conducive to songwriting and recording. A lounge area with a kitchen, T.V. and fireplace located within the studio, as well as refreshing outdoor patio with valley view for breaks and relaxation. Santa Cruz county and nearby locations are known for having the freshest air in California provides fresh and inspirational creative thinking. We take special accommodation upon request.
